Members HCadvisor
Here's what my prof. posted. Give meh some good stuff to write... "Argue an important cause or effect of one of the following: Silent Films, Film Noir, The Cinema of Hysteria, Punk Rock, 60's rock (taken as a whole: its ethos, if you will), Humanism, Dmitri Shostakovich, Southern Literature, Post-Colonial Literature, The Graphic Novel as Literature, Outsider Art, Internet Pornography, AVN awards, Thomas Pynchon, Dada (effect only), Reality TV. Also: Feminist Tropes, Post-structuralism, French Feminism, American Feminism, Eco Feminism, Vietnam, Hiroshima/Nagasaki/Dresden, The New Deal, The United Nations, Horatio Alger, etc. or Argue for a specific origin of one of the following: Zydeco, Rock 'N Roll, Punk, Jazz, Reggae, Plainsong, etc- any musical genre (which also treats genre as subject, will certainly do), The Golden Age of Comics, Mythology (in general or specifically), the heroic archetype (or similar variations: damsel in distress, kid from the wrong side of the tracks, etc), an idiomatic expression (or sequence of them), Feminism in general, the Feminist Backlash, Fight Club as concept, Metro-sexuality, Beauty Contests (Jon Benet), the Paparazzi, WW I, WW II, Dada, Communism, Mental Illness, Anorexia/Body Dysmorphia, etc. This list is extremely preliminary in nature; if you have suggestions, make them." Members utterhack
What class is this? Is there an electronic copy of the syllabus you could post or link to? Because otherwise, the arousal reflex occupies a significant causal relation vis-a-vis internet pornography, with ejaculation and detumesence the predictable effects QED. Members utterhack
Has Pynchon been assigned, or did he just throw him in there for laughs? Reality TV would be a pretty slam-dunk one too: concretizes the latent voyeurism inherent in visual media on the one hand, addresses spiralling scripted-content budget issues on the other (since neither talent nor writers (yes, writers) are union), and on the, er, third hand, offers proven formats adapted from already-successful overseas programming. Members M900
How about punk rock and feminism? Johnny Rotten claims that women were given equal footing during the early years of punk in his autobio. You can argue for that and the opening of pop music to "edgy" pop acts in the 80's. c

Members trlkvsky
I'd link outsider art to the decline of "Modernism" and the rise of Postmodernism categories in the field of critical analysis of the "art objet" or rather what's worthy of being called art.
