Members MikerDougie
I'm pretty new to the world of electric guitar. Just wondering what people consider to be the "essential" effects to have?

Members PFDarkside
None of them. To me, effects are like seasonings in cooking, they can enhance and even make the dish (track) but the core is still the guitar and amp.

Members preservation
i love delay, and use it often.after that a clean boost or preamp is useful, and everything else for me is just extra fun. i can say that i'd be sad to be without any of my current effects... Members MahaAtTheVishnu
Delay is necessary. I even use it for jazz, just a tiny bit. For rock some kind of overdrive, such as a tubescreamer. Hopefully your amp has good distortion already. Those are the only 2 essentials for me, but EQS, harmonizers, phasers, loopers, etc... can be great fun.
