Members inscho
a tele with a standard pickup config and one with a wide range bucker in the neck? I've never had the opportunity to play one w/ the bucker...although I think I'll try and hunt one down this weekend to try.

Members MrMunky
A good standard Tele pickup has a sweet chime with a mellow top end. Roll off the top end and you get a very cool jazz sound. For example, http://www.inrerocknroll.com/tunes/TopFuel.mp3 ; http://www.inrerocknroll.com/tunes/Wayfaring.mp3 A properly wired humbucker in the neck will still yield a good middle position sound with the bridge pickup. However, in my experience, on its own a neck humbucker really doesn't have much distinctive character in a Tele. Sounds just like any bolt on guitar neck humbucker. Members PFDarkside
What's a wide range bucker? Is that the Humbucker that Fender puts in the neck of their HS Teles? I must be one of the few that like the regular Tele neck P/U. The Texas Special neck is smoother and more refined than the equivalent Strat pickup. However, I think a hot, snappy single coil would match up well with a PAF style in the neck of a Tele. (Damnit, I'm starting to GAS for another Tele!) Members vteckid22
I've read that the Wide-Range humbucker in the reissues arent made the same way as the original ones. Seems like they are just a normal HB put inside a bigger casing. I like the Filtertron-sized HB in the neck of my Schecter PT Fastback. Its also got the coil split, so i can get some nice tones there. So in regards to your question, I have no idea. Besides the fact that I guess the sound of the WR in the neck would make it a warmer sound because of it being an HB.

Members PFDarkside
Sounds like Fender is at it again, copying the look of their older technology but not the technology itself. I'm interested to hear an original.
