which fender and vox amp specifically? A lot of those pedals can't pull it off with a vox amp.

IMO the crunch box works great with my blues junior and with my bands mates fender twin. Then we tried it on the AC30 and it was tinny and metallic sounding no matter how we EQ'd the amp and the pedal.

I hear great things about the box of rock. You should get one, if you don't like it...then I'll call dips on it.:thu:

As dumb as this sounds, Ive gotten pretty close to a "cross between a JMP and JCM800" type tone from a Ibanez MT10 Mostortion thru a Twin! (I an't got 'nuff 'stortion...I need some Mo'stortion !)

IIRC, its a bit of a "favorite" for people like Daniel Lanois.... :)

I'm using a Barber Direct Drive with a Traynor ycv40. Gets a good ballsy sound as opposed to some "marshall" type pedals that get buzzy. Ocd's worth a look too.

I think it is supposed to be the JTM 45 in a box. Then again, I don't know the specifics of the difference between the JCM800 and the JTM 45 sound. To me, the JCM800 is gainer and the JTM 45 just sounds better.

yeah the JTM has those classic plexi characteristics, but it can definitely do the 800 also.

The original Marshall Guvnor MK1 Phil ... I've had this as my main dirt box on my board for 5 years or more and nothing beats it. My entire sound is largely an 800 sound so take it from me. thumb.gif

Since the forum seems to be on a Marshall kick tonight, let me ask this..

What's so different between the original Guv'nor and the Guv'nor 2?

Seriously ... the Guvnor 2 is {censored}! They are nothing like eachother ...

I've never heard the original. And The Guv'nor 2 sounds pretty good if you ask me.

Dunno mang ... I've heard the Guv 2 and it's like some bloody brother to the MT2. The original Guvnor is something you should try and hear for yourself to make a comparison.

Nearly everybody I know who has owned or owns the original Guvnor who has then heard the Guvnor 2 has the same thing to say about the Guvnor 2.

If you like it ... ok. :o

I'll ride the Marshall pedal bandwagon and vouch for the Drivemaster, if you can find one. While it does not have the Guv'nor's effects loop and the voicing probably isn't identical, it fares pretty well with my Deluxe Reverb Reissue, and I've gotten some cool tones stacking with a modded TS-9. Unfortunately, I don't have any firsthand Vox experience.

Oh, and another great thing about those old Marshall pedals is how the EQ is set up to be fairly versatile.
