Maxon OD-9 not TRUE true bypass?

what were they using before? I remember hearing something about it being basically true bypass, but it was not 100%. I knew there was a point where it wasn't true bypass i'm just wondering if the true bypass they are using now is the real deal.

Check out the analogman site-he says it is-if it weren't, I'm sure he would be offering to mod it so I'm pretty sure it's the real deal now.

yeah i've checked out analogmans site. I'm just trying to find a tubescreamer that has ABSOLUTELY no affect on tone. imo EVERY SINGLE tubescreamer when off seems to REALLY affect tone when bypassed, in a huge way. Plugged straight in my tone is WAY better than with any pedal before the preamp :(

oh okay, i think i'm gonna get the od-9, i didn't reallize how much tone suck the maxon od808 had until yesterday when i plugged straight in, then back to the maxon, then back straight in. HUGE difference, even worse with my Bad Monkey. I sold the od808 today on ebay. I could have gotten the od808 modded by analogman but i've always wanted to try an OD9.

You guys with maxon od808s may want to get those suckers modded for true bypass. With it in the chain switched off there is a ton of compression added, low end is chopped off, a metallic/thin sound added, added white noise, muddied up sound, a squishy feel (from the compression probably), and lowered output.

Dont turn it off

No way man i love having a tubescreamer added to the sound at times, but overall i mainly use my 5150 without a boost. I just mainly use it for turning my crunchy rhythm sound into a smooth fat lead sound. I don't play tons of metal so i don't really use it for rhythm sound. I prefer the amps own voice for rythm.

Also the muddyness and thin sound is still there with it turned on also. I would prefer a clearer more transparent sound (but still retaining the mid hump) than the od808.

I'm thinking of getting the Od-9 too-I tried the 808 and really liked it but tb is a plus. Let us know how you like the od9 when you get it in comparison.

Will do :thu: I might be buying a new one from analogman with his silver mod though which will not really resemble the stock pedal so much. I think the OD9 is a TS9 (not 808) just with true bypass from what i've read on analogmans site, and i prefer the 808 to the ts9 sound.

you know i may have been a little quick at making the maxon seem like its sucking lots of tone. I've been messing with it bypassed and with it in my chain

for a good while today.

First thing i reallized, don't max out the level on it, it sounds much better with the level backed up to around 2-3 oclock, i think with high output humbuckers we maybe clipping the output of the maxon, its way tighter and clearer with the level turned back. I think it sounds way better this way. Still

LOTS of gain on the pickup volume input signal.

Next i have an adjustable voltage power supply for my pedals. Knocked it up from 9v to 12v and WOW, much better results, the maxon is much clearer. MOre dynamic and just sounds much better. Now it has more headroom i assume which is what is causing it to sound so much clearer. I highly recommend using 12v with this pedal. They can take up to around 16v without a problem so 12v is plenty safe don't worry.

Finally i REALLY listened and paid attention to the way it felt to play and the sound difference i get with the pedal off but still in the chain. I think if anything the only thing i'm really hearing now is actually maybe more output using it rather than out of the chain. I think my dynamics may be even better

with it in the chain! I'm not sure if changing it to 12v somehow effects the bypass switch in a positive way also but it sure didn't muddy my sound, or add anything bad to the sound. The only thing it did add was a bit of white noise which i don't like but can live with it.

I'm thinking about sending it off to analogman ONLY to have true bypass installed on it, no other mods. It really does tear my Bad Monkey a new asshole. I gotta sell the bad monkey.

I thought you said the Monkey wasnt much different
;)

Yeah today is the first time i really ever REALLY REALLY paid attention to my overdrives. I've always just bought them and just used em never paid much attention. Today was all bout overanalyzing my OD pedals haha. Big difference.

I've decided i'm not getting the od9. I'm just gonna send my od808 to get a true bypass switch put on it.
