Boss ds-1

Digitech death metal

Digitech Grunge

Roadkill Distortion

Stick to the list thos are the only ones I can afford

Black Sabbath:

Marshall/Laney/Orange/Hiwatt style all-tube head
SG
Dallas Rangemaster or Clone

Metallica:
Boogie Amp or similar
Boost pedal
humbucker-loaded guitar (doesn't really matter which one).

Iron Maiden:
humbucker-loaded guitar (doesn't really matter which one).
Boost pedal
Marshall JCM800 stack

Pantera:
Dean Explorer or similar (doesn't really matter which one).
Some godawful distortion pedal (whatever's on your list is fine).
SS Stack (what...Gallein Kreuger? I'm not a Pantera amp expert.)

See a pattern here? It's about LOUD AMPS pushed by HUMBUCKER-EQUIPPED GUITARS, with maybe a little BOOST, not flat-out dirt-pedal sound, with the possible exception of Dimebag, who sounds like assmeat anyway (though I do like his riffs).

I think I'm probably going to get the digitech death metal and I do need a better and bigger amp but until I get a job or something thats going to have to wait and I just want something now that will give me more distorted sounds through my little amps.
I do have the humbucker loaded guitar thing all my guitars except my strat (with a humbucker in the bridge and overwounds in the neck and middle) are humbucker loaded and I got the sg for the black sabbath already. I will have the superstrat for the rest in about a week.

It's really all about the amp, man. I didn't really get it until I got a full tube amp, and I was lucky enough to have that be a vintage Marshall half0stack on the cheap.

Seriously...save up about $1000 and get a JCM800 and a 4x12. Until then, get a few Black Sabbath tab books, 'Kill 'em All' through '..and Justice for All' tab books, and a good Iron Maiden and Judas Priest tab book (I've not seen one), a scale book, and a chord book, and practice every spare second you can. The Death Metal through whatever amp you have is fine for practicing. Then get your REAL amp and write your own songs based on what you know.

I wish I had the discipline to be a good metal player. I respect those who can (meaning folks like Kirk Hammett and Dimebag, not mile-a-second classical assholes like Y. J. Malmsteen). Just remember it's 90% in the attitude and the sound, not how fast you can sweep pick. (Though sweep picking is nice to know as a skill.).

Those bands are some of the best bands ever I also like overkill but there stuff is really heavy and I didn't think these pedals would do it I would hate to hear what your taste in bands are.

Thanks CapnMarvel I have a Peavey TransTube 258 EFX its got an 8" speaker its actually pretty nice it gets load (almost load enogh) but no distortion so I have been using my brothers little behringer that has distortion but is really quiet and I want to use the better one. I'm on school vacation this week and I'm going to learn all the songs I can right now I am learning how to play metallica's one and I need to switch the distortion in the middle of the song on that and thought it was about time for a pedal.

and someomne already had 666 so I needed to add more

I honestly think anything besides the DS-1 will be a bad decision. The Death Metal is awful as is the Grunge. I think it's safe to assume whatever that last one was will be awful, too.

The DS-1 should have enough gain for you. Try them all out at a store.

Yea led zeppelin is a great band I thought I put them on the list but I guess not but the beatles are way to much overrated and I don't think I would have missed out on very much if I never listened to them although some of their later stuff is great.

I'll try the ds-1 the next time I go to the music store the last time i was there they didn't have it tho.

That's really surprising. Ask if they have any in the back that you can demo next time.

Give the Grunge and Death Metal a try too, if you want. I find that the Grunge has an unusable about of gain and fizz. Even with the gain knob way down, it's over the top. The Death Metal is just.. ugh. Maybe these reissues are different from the DOD versions. They may be just what you're looking for, too. The only way to know is to hear them in person. You can probably find all of these for super cheap on Ebay, too.
