My effects unit is quiet in my loop!

When I plug my Virtualizer Pro into my Mark IV's FX loop, I notice a LARGE volume drop. When the unit is in front of my amp, the volume is normal. When my loop is empty, but activated, and a cord connected send/return, there is no volume drop.

Any ideas?

It's the impedance wanting a +4 dB line level instead of -10dB feeding it. Try Taking the line out of your Boogie to feed the input of your FX and out of your fx unit to the loop return.

Are you referring to the Recording out of the amp? There is a switch on the rear panel of the unit for +4db or -10db, however it doesn't seem to help/solve the problem.

yes I was. Set it to +4dB. Check the internal parameter's output levels of your fx unit as well as the mix levels. :thu:

Well, in front of the amp, with all of the levels up, the unit works.

When plugged into the line out and mono FX return, I get the same low-volume issue.

With the 4db switch engaged over -10db, the volume still remains low.

could be a few things, but I would suggest checking the parameter output levels of the fx unit, and crank them.

The amp's loop send level will be affected by the master volume level and when playing very quietly will not send very much signal to the fx inputs. I suggested using the preamp out because you have a level control knob to help dial this in better.

Check the internal parameters 1st. It may also be that your preamp tube that controls your loop is needing to be replaced. :thu:

If it was the pre-amp tube controlling the loop, would connecting a cable in the loop (fx send - fx return direct) still work? When I do this, the amp plays exactly the same as if the loop was not engaged.

If I plug a cable into my FX send, I get the exact same low volume issue, regardless of what it's plugged into.

I hate troubleshooting and failing :o

Ya, return to the direct FX return with your fx unit and let me know if that solves it.

To me it sounds like you're using an instrument level effect (-20dBu) while the amp's effects loop is expecting line level (-10dBu).

Would I be correct in saying that fx loops are for line level effects only?

I'm thinking about buying a boss rc2 looper but if it's not going to work properly in my fx loop then bugger it. (the boss rc2 level is -20dBu)
