Anyone have any complaints on the PedalTrains?

I see nothing but good comments on these things. But I am not seeing how the lack of some sort of a flat, ground-level platform isn't annoying to people. I need to mount a lot of things undereath my board. I keep a looper under there, a DC brick, and a TU-2 that I use to power a daisy chain, plus a cord that has to run from one end of my board to another, and a power strip with a few adapters.

Every board I've had really necessitated either a lower level or some sort of second tier that I could let me hide some things. Doesn't anyone get annoyed with having to mount things underneath with zipties or some sort of adhesive and keep everything from touching the floor?

I also think that the design gives people so much less of an option to put their pedals exactly where they want them due to the huge open spaces.

Maybe I'm wrong and I'm just not seeing the beauty of these boards. I just don't think I could live with those things! Am I really missing out? Enlighten me!

Eh. I like it, but I don't at the same time. There's not enough spacing underneath it for the cables to NOT touch the ground when going under the center bar. My Neutrik right angle jacks are a bit too big, too. On the lower level, I can't put them down into the space without them touching the ground.

I still need to cut out the holes to mount my PP2 underneath, too. That'll free up some room.

I think PedalTrains are great for the right people, and I love the look of them. These are the reasons I didn't want one:

1) I don't need an 'angle'... I like a flat board, esp. with a wah on it.

2) I also found the value of a tier... not to hide anything underneath, but to stop my heel or cuff of my pants from hitting the knobs at on the first row of pedals when I'm turning on something on the second row. An angled board doesn't solve that problem.

3) I can't customise the PedalTrain to the size I want.

NOW- if PedalTrain came out with a 32" x 14" board that had a 'tiered' effect for the back 'row' of the board (that was 24"x7" - to allow room for a wah), AND the slats were a little closer together to make ZVex mounting and the like more secure... I would have bought that in a heartbeat!!!

I got mine because it was a great clearance Scratch & Dent deal with a small dent in the case and more than half off the price because of it. For the money, I'm glad I got it, but there are definately drawbacks.

The wah placement is annoying for me, particularly with a Wah Probe...it basically has to go on the floor to have any chance of making your leg move without severe cramping.

The gaps in the rails can be annoying, particularly with smaller pedals like a Catalinbread or Zvex that are narrow and horizontal. My Expandora and Semaphore in particular can never seem to get securely placed. Small vertical pedals are no problem though.

I have the old, regular sized one, and there is very limited space underneath, but that doesn't bother me all that much because I don't have a big power supply, and actually usually run all batteries anyway.

Bottom line, I would say they are very sturdy and can be great if your setup fits their design, but they also have some features that could be definate dealbreakers for some people. I think eventually I'll be upgrading to something else, but its working for me at the moment.

i have a pedaltrain junior and it has worked well for me...the only thing I need to hide is a dunlop dc-brick which zip-ties nicely underneath.

but I'm thinking about making an even smaller board, so I'll probably just buy a piece of plywood.

That's why I like this..

I can have a big angle, no angle at all or anywhere in between. The slats are smaller so you can fit smaller pedals across between a gap if you need to (A zvex would fit fine across the gap). It'll soon be painted satin black just like a PedalTrain and it'll have a tier on it. If I could just get it back from the painter, I'd be in good shape.

I need to find a nice roadcase for it, as well.

I still wouldn't trust that one falling on the floor. You'd have to put some padding in there and get a better latch for sure. Plus how thin is that metal?
:freak:

they also have these cheap little flight case looking things at home depot I've been eyeing...

or I may just get a samsonite case from a thrift store.

As much as I like my board, I'd ideally like one built by someone who knows what they are doing more than me. I wish I wanted a Pedaltrain but I just dont. I can't seem to find anything out there I like. NYCPedalboards are the best thing I've seen, but they only do boards with second teirs. I'd must rather have a top level and a bottom level.
