Looking for a Distortion pedal...

Anyone have some recommendations for some thick sounding, low-mid gain distortion pedals? My amp's distortion *sounds* good for what I want, but it's very thin - it doesn't have that thickness to bring it all together.

Can someone suggest a few pedals that would fit what I want?

What the {censored} is your problem? I described the sound I want. Someone I'm sure can recommend a pedal that fits what I asked. Obviously you can't and are just trying to cause trouble.

And, I'd just like to say this; I've never reported someone on HC before, but you're pushing to be the first.

This narrows it down to around 600 to 700 pedals.

...Could an EQ really beef up the sound?

an eq (in the case of a dano, ge7, etc) is a set of active tone controls (read: they've got the ability to make large changes in those ranges that are tweaked) plus a level control. your amp's controls are passive -- and only in 4 ranges.

by running gtr-->eq-->amp, you can make big differences in what your amp has to work with; if you bump the lower end up a bit, everything out of your amp will have increased low end.

kinda like hitting the eq buttons on an mp3 player, when its plugged into the stereo.

by going gtr-->amp-->fx loop: eq, you can make tweaks (big or small) to whatever the output of your amp is doing. kinda like the tone controls on the stereo, except you've got 7 bands, as opposed to bass and treble.

you can also use it between pedals to different effect, but it sounds like you're working with amp distortion, so....

Fine. Although I'm sure that's an exaggeration, I'll try to narrow it down a bit.

I Want;

-Low-mid gain
-thick sound
-Clear sound - no muddiness
-Under $100
-Tight sounding - no looseness
-And, I have to be able to order it from a local place, so no special order pedals that most people have never heard of.

Better?

the dano fish and chips is always a fav around here, can often be had for $15-20. at its heart is a modded boss ge-7, which in some rigs in some cases has been known to get noisy/hissy. the dano resolved that. if yours is a rig that plays nice with the ge-7, they can be had $50ish in the spam thread/$90 new, iirc. those are the two that'd be at the top of my list, the mxr 10-bands strike me as just a bit too much (thats for me only, i could see the point in some applications), and the 6-band w/out the stompswitch is cool for 'always on' (or fx-loop switchable) applications, but couldnt be used in quite as many apps (

and lets call a spade a spade.

i can be a total dick sometimes. quite frequently some weeks.

I was messing around with my Marshall MG30 combo the other day, because my DSL is way too loud for night jamming! :) Anyway I wanted to see what my overdrive pedal would do in front of the SS combo. I have a Zoom PD-01 which is AWESOME and I had the gain low on the pedal and at about noon on the amp. I was able to achieve a pretty good sound. It really tightened it up and gave it a fuller spectrum. If you can get a PD-01 I can imagine that it would make that amp rip. I love this pedal so much I have 2, just in case my main one takes a turn for the worse. I might try and record something with that little combo with an overdrive in front of it for you. Good luck!

I was able to pick those pedals up brand new for $39.95 a piece. I also have a HL-01 which has a real good distortion when dialed in right. I really love my Zoom analog Od/Distortion pedals. I really want to check out a TM-01 and a UF-01. I can only imagine that these sound great!
