Can I use something other than Windows Installer?

To install drivers/programs?

Microsoft can pretty much blow me. I'm so pissed right now. In the last 6 months, I've reset my laptop (lost alot of good data) thanks to this lame-ass Windows Installer "Service cannot be reached" bull{censored}.

Is there anything that I can use instead of Windows Installer??

Any help would be awesome.

I am sure that there ARE programs out there it's just... being such a computergeek-i should know.. but oddly i've never thought about using alternative programs.

could your laptop be too old to handle newer processes?
could you have some sort of virus or spyware?..

y`know.. think of things like that before you blame microsoft.

I've been through all of this, believe me. My computer is an Inspiron E1705 with a Centrino Duo processor, so it isn't too old. A virus may be the answer, but I've been through so many cleaners, regcleaners, disk-cleaners, frag-cleaners that I fear I may not be able to have children any more.

I have AVG virus protection and it hasn't found anything. Maybe this isn't the best source for virus protection, being free and all, but who knows.

DAMMIT

At some point, after you've {censored}ed with antivirus software, defragging, scan disking, tweaking, uninstalling, reinstalling, etc.... It's time to just nuke the whole thing and rebuild. Back up whatever you need, make sure you've got all your installation discs, and reformat.

There's definitely a point where a machine gets past the point of repair. It's easier to just go back to square one rather than fight with a crippled machine.

:D

Since you work for retailing and all....how about the hookup?
;)

haha well I turned my 2 week notice in today...as I'm moving on to bigger and better things. I would be able to get you 15% off, but only if you were comfortable with sending me your personal info (CC #/info, address, etc.).
