So right now i'm using a Analogman ts9dx/808. Though it's a great pedal i find it a bit mid-heavey and dark sounding with the 800. Would a Keeley SD-1 open things up fof me? Or maybe something else boutique, modded, vintage? (yeah i know the Bad Monkey sounds great through $150 transistor amps:bor: ) I'm not a tone snob:)

My Klon sounds incredible boosting my 2203. But that was always going to happen :)

I found an Analogman SD-1 sounded too thin for my ears, but a Keeley Katana worked great as a boost with or without the gain knob pulled out.

Thanks for the Rat recommendation PP. I loved the one I used when I had a solid state amp but I never got to try it with a JCM800 and have been toying with the idea for a while. I reckon you've just convinced me! I've been looking for something heavier, the Teaser Stallion I just picked up didn't quite cut it on the distortion side (though I love the oscillation side so it's a keeper).

Thanks man! I am looking forward to doing so. Now that Beavis Audio Research Four Knob Rat in the spam thread has me tempted...

If you like the tone I would suggest a Clean Booster to knock it up a notch or two to get your natural distortion.

MXR MicroAmp, EHX LPB-1, ZVEX SHO, etc.

Tried it but with my Zvex superduper but i didn't find the result satisfying, adds alot off sqealing noise rather than "thump"

I really think NOTHING beats a Keeley SD1 for boosting a JCM800... It adds a little top end if you need. I set my tone knob about 1-2 o'clock, and gain minm volume max and my 800 screams. Other things I have work too, but nothing adds the magic that the Keeley does.

My JCM800 will be up and running in a few days...2210 Model.

I already have a Fulltone FD for slight OD and Boost...

But for an even more distored tone....rat vs ocd...

the ocd would look cooler next to my fulldrive...but are they comparable?

It was the silver with push/pull - Boss/Ibanez clipping. I'm sure others might dig what it can offer but the sound wasn't what I was looking for. It added too much of its' own character for me. I think boosts are the way to go for that mildly overdriven sound / crunch...

It's finding something heavy that's eluding me. That's why I'm interested in these Rat suggestions. Turning the volume / gain up isn't an option as keeping the thing clean is a struggle in itself! FYI I am using a Matchless Cool Box (permanently on) to aid this. Now it sparkles...

Fulldrive Mosfet. No fooling, it's a kickass pedal into a Marshall.:)

In the end most boosts end up sounding pretty close when driving an 800's high input. I've been thru 10 to 15 high and low end boosts, Timmy's to BM's. The crunchbox is cool but it's just ridiculus in the gain dept. Gotta run the gain almost off but it still adds a nice fattness. The other one I kept is a modded SD-1. It's a classic combination with an 800. Maybe some slight bass suckage but I like that. Low notes don't flub out.

The JCM-800 is not a very high gain amp so you should not expect much distortion even when cranked up.

Depends what you're after, if you're after br3wtll then i might agree, but for everything else there's more than you need inside those babies!
