Roland EV-5 alternatives?

Recently I bought a Boss PS-5 pedal along with a Roland EV-5 expression pedal. I am happy with both purchases, but alot of things I have read about the EV-5's reliability problems have me concerned. Is there a better choice for a reliable expression pedal? I am unsure if brand makes a difference when coupling it with a Boss pedal, so I figured I would come on here and ask before I really start looking at other options. Thanks

To my knowledge no one is making a really rugged stand alone expression pedal. There may be one or two rugged volume/expression pedal combos, but most expression pedals are actually cheaper than the EV-5. I've been considering the $40 Moog EP2, which I'm hoping might be a half-way house between ruggedness and disposability - not so cheap it will fall to bits in a week but not so expensive you'll be peeved if it crumbles after a year or two.

Been wondering... most of these expression pedals use a 1/4 inch cable. Are there not any such pedals with midi connectors (5 or 7 pin midi)? There are several floor midi controllers that combine footswitches *and* expression pedals (also called continuous controllers), but I've never seen a stand-alone expression pedal that uses a midi connection...
