What effect is used for the guitar sound on New Order's "Bizarre Love Triangle?"

Is that an Erasure avatar that I spy?:cool:

Bernard Sumner probably used a buttload of compresson on his guitar signal ... and I'm pretty sure that Peter Hook regularly used a Fender VI baritone with an equal amount of processing.

"The Perfect Kiss" is my favorite New Order song. :thu:

Some of what Hookie did with "up on the neck" chorus'd bass had to do with EQ settings as well. Bass and treble are a bit boosted, so you get more meat along with the upper-freq clarity. A lot of people just roll off the bridge pickup( a la Fender Jazz Bass) to do the same, but much early New Order stuff in particular was played on Peter's Yamaha RB-1200, which was essentially a Fender Precision Bass.

...And who could forget his cool Yamaha-made Rickenbacker copy? Must be circa '76-'77:
