Can we get this stickied? A question for pedal builders

Pedal Builders,

 

Maybe this can help reduce some of your e-mails as well as provide forum members with a handy resource for tweaking their pedals...

 

What other voltages above 9v will your pedals safely operate at?

 

FoxRox Electronics ZIM (per e-mail from Dave Fox): Up to 35 volts

 

If you're a pedal builder, don't be shy...list your pedals and up to what voltages they can be safely operated at. :)

Its really not in their best interests to tell people about the limits of their pedals operating range. Then people will begin trying things out and when they go too far theyll end up blaming the builder or the repairs will start flowing in. In most cases, if a pedal isn't advertised as one that can take a wide range of voltages, it was designed with the labeled voltage in mind.

all subdecay pedals are safe up to about 15 volts.
They may not operate quite right though.

For example, the quasar uses current control to modulate the phasing. More voltage will push more current through.

Liquid sunshine, flying tomato and Blackstar do not use clipping diodes, so they gain headroom when running at higher voltages... so you will get more volume but less overdrive/distortion/clipping.

Stupid box, wont make much difference.

Noisebox will be much louder, and may affect tracking a bit.

I would recommend NOT making this for a "sticky" for a couple of reasons

1) logistics -It's a valid question, but a pretty specific operational question, we could have, literally, dozens (maybe hundreds) of these

2) Technical - it can cause spec revision control problems - If there is a design revision, that info stands a risk of not getting propagated to the sticky thread
Wonder why that stir-motor system in Apollo 13 failed? yup! voltage spec change that didnt get fully communicated/implemented

3) legal - Its probably not the bestest idea to allow-for use conditions that are outside any advertised/speced ranges as it makes for inconsistent user instructions and could open up a can o worms


what might be better would be to ask the manufacturers to spec their operating voltages on their materials
