Tape to hide pedals probably actually works...

People on here can probably figure it out easy, but most of my friend's in local bands pretty much have no clue about effects. If someone had a pedal covered in tape or rehoused, they probably could never figure it out.

A friend who has been in a few bands was over today and didn't really understand what a boost pedal was. I've been telling him he needs one because during the solos I can barely hear him above the mix.

Well, I mean, we are the nerds of pedals. Of course we would know. The average guitar player's knowledge of effects is Boss, Digitech, and THE HOLY GRAIL IBANEZ

I agree. Most of the guys I encounter only know what Guitar Center has. They don't really even know about Fulltone when a locally owned place down the street from GC stocks them.

One friend doesn't even want to buy EHX stuff because he thinks they feel like they'll fall apart. His example was, "I dropped my Boss tuner down the stairs the other day and it still works."

Thing is music isn't a linear path that everyone travels on. Some people just don't need effects to do what they do. These are the people I learn most from. People with pedalboards like mine have me sneaking a jealous look to see what they've got, and gassing for more pedals.

I agree. The guy we know who can play the best hardly has any equipment at all. He doesn't even know what chord names are but he can hear them.

One day we were like, "Play a G" and he goes, "What?" and my friend just hits a G and is like, "That chord" and he goes, "oh, alright" and has it right away. He can pick up a most of songs just by listening to them. You can be playing a progression and he knows exactly what to play over it.

It's sometimes annoying if we're at a party and they are doing Guitar Hero. Someone will be on it and if he finds a guitar, he's playing along with them.

hehe yeah i get gawking faces when people see my board. they always say "man you could play an arena show with that". thing is, it really ain't all that great

hell, the first reason i started coming to this forum was because I couldn't hear myself during solos and i was looking for a boost. now i've got a 11 pedal board, doh. i remember not knowing a thing about pedals and thinking 'tubescreamers must give you that tube-like sound" (wtf lol) and i didn't know an attenuator from an OD. so it's pretty easy for me to remember being pedal-less. it was a more innocent time

hahaha, I remember seeing my first tubescreamer, probably around '89 and thinking 'wow a pedal that sounds like a screaming tube amp' imagine my disspointment when I tried it out.....the same day I also saw a 'noise gate' and thought that sounded like a wicked effect too.
