Members hangwire
I brought back my old pratice amp from my mom's house... a 70s Acoustic brand brown and tan little guy I have dubed "Lil Classy" noticed this morning when moving it before rushing to work that it has a pre amp out on the back anyone use their combo amp's pre amp out, and for what purpose? could I run another cab with this out in addition to the internal spekaer [whcih is actually nice]? I wanted to ask here before having to hit the amp forum
Members melx
no, you can't plug a speaker into it. it's the same thing as a send on an effects loop it just takes your signal out after the pre amp section of the combo. you could run it into a power amp. So I thought maybe this was the signal after the pre volume but before the master power stage to send to another cab...
Members hangwire
can it be modified so this does become an extra "out" so I can run a 1x10 cab with the internal; speaker at the same time? Like a pratice mini stack :poke:

Like a pratice mini stack :poke:I guess it's possible to turn it into an extention cab out, but it wouldn't be a quick easy thing to do (as far as I know) and would probably cost more than the amps worth. Imagine how quiet it would be without going through the power amp section? it would be like plugging a boss pedal into a speaker with no amp!!! Members amp_surgeon
The purpose of a pre-amp out on any amplifier is so that you can connect the amp to anything that requires a line level (1V peak-to-peak) signal, such as a line mixer, PA amp, or recorder. It allows you to use the amp as a substitute for a direct-in box. You might find the pre-amp out to be useful with some old recorders, like the early Roland VS series, that have only line level inputs, especially if you plan to the use the recorder's internal effects. This would allow you to record the guitar "dry", and then apply the effects in post processing. The signal level coming out of the pre-amp is far too low in voltage and too high in impedance to drive any speaker, though it might drive a small pair of mono headphones.
