Members Noise...
Both. If only one is an option, I'd go Jaguar first, then get the Mustang later.
Members homestar_kevin
^+1 but I'd personally take a jazzmaster over either

Members echodeluxe
while all of the responses so far have been correct, i would personally go for a mustang right now. my buddy jim (amp_surgeon) has a 69 reissue in that creme color with a tort pickguard and it is a dream come true. it plays amazingly and it sounds so great. they have been hard to find though, i wanted to pick one up with my tax return but all i can find are the '65s (slab body, no contours. I NEED CONTOURS!!!) here it is:
Members Liberty Belle
i have a 1966 daphne blue mustang and a white RI 62 jaguar and if i could only have one it would be a mustang.depends on what sound you want man, mustangs have tons of sustain whereas jags have less than a strat styled guitar. jaguars look nicer than ANY guitar imo but............. play both and decide. Members monkeyland
kind of off topic but why is a mustang considered offset. just because it's not a strat or tele? it's really not offset at all.
Members elxchino
Never played either, but I like the looks of the Jaguar. Anybody know if the jags have trouble staying in tune? Are there any Fenders that don't have trouble staying in tune?
Members echodeluxe
the mustang is an offset waist guitar. yes, yes it is.

Members StratoSlacker
Get a Jazzmaster. Jaguar pickups sound odd to me.

Members gambit
i prefer a jag with block inlays and the dark tortoise shell scratchplate (not the red one).. but if you did go mustang, i much prefer the look of the open pickups with the visible pole pieces. maybe stick a splittable rails humbucker in the bridge.. that'd be nice. also, never choose the candy apple red or sonic blue colours. they look gash. olympic white is nice.. as is this one..
