Finally getting the sound I want (Pic Heavy)

So after kicking around here for a while, I finally got the sounds I was looking for, and all I needed was the right amps.

Here's the progression.

Started with a Gibson LP Classic, Peavey Triumph 60, Boss ME-30, Boss MT-2, and Boss CH-1 this was my rig for about 7 years. And I was just fed up of it.

APRIL 2006 same guitar and amp with this

NOV 2007 after going absolutely retarded in the effects forum went through a good 100 pedals and ended up with this (same amp/guitar)

FEB 2007 Added a new amp, still wasn't happy with my sound, same guitar.

OCT 2007 Went through another pedal binge, and this time added a bunch of guitars into the mix

After all this I was still fed up with the sound I was getting, people said it sounded great, and while it was close, it just wasn't what I was looking for.

So I kept searching and found that the sound in my head wouldn't come from those little magic boxes, but from big ol' Amps, so I went and got me some, and switched up my guitars just a bit.

Just have a Micro Chorus coming back to me, and I am more than happy with my setup.

I know it's not what most people would want or need, but just thought I would share my experiences here, BTW all the gear I own now except the Gibsons, has been bought either here or at TGP.

So thanks to all.

I know, but the Ultra and Triumph we're great amps, they were just to in the middle (jack of all trades), and I needed the two opposite ends of the spectrum.

Ignorance was bliss, but it ended up driving me crazy:thu:

Well I've had the Mark III for about 3 months now, and it is not leaving, it is the high gain sound for me, just needed a sweet clean channel so I picked up the Twin Reverb.

I am now playing more, and enjoying it more than I have in years, so until that starts to dwindle, my gear will not change.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Great pics. Thanks for sharing. I agree that you are pretty much {censored}ed for getting the sound you want without the right amp.

Oh, I had to quote this pic - love the Explorer - I have a thing for them. They are my favourite guitars. I know they are cheesy to some, but I love the way mine plays and feels. I've played quite a and I don't think I've played one I didn't like, which can't be said for every model I've played.

So let that be a lesson, kiddies: You need to start w/ a good guitar and a good amp (or two!)

Thanks for the post, hopefully other people will learn what you have w/out going through all the gear. Of course, that really is how you learn, innit?

Sweet setup now. Of course, I think you need a 4x12 instead of that 2x12. that'll be a big sound! I converted my Tremoverb from a combo into a 1/2 stack and couldn't be happier - except when I have to transport the damn thing, lol.

Well selling off my board actually funded the amps
Skreddy Top Fuel, Skreddy Screw Driver, Skreddy Mayo, Mi Audio Tube Zone, Landmine LD-1, EHX 2880 w/footswitch, EHX POG, EHX Holier grail and holy grail, EHX Q-tron+, EHX Metal Muff, EHX SMMH, EHX LBM, ISP Decimator, THD Hotplate, MXR 10 band EQ, Vox Clyde McCoy and some others.

Add those up and you can easily see where I got a large chunk of my $$$$ from.

As for my job, well I am a power engineer.
