Members Folky_Grunge
I think I want to get a treble booster. Right now, I'm looking at the HBE Germania and the Hartman Germanium Treble Boost. I'm considering the HBE more because it's cheaper (which is good, I don't really want to spend that much money). What I want to do is tighten up some of my distorted sounds and make them less muddy. I'm thinking T. Rex and Brian May type sounds. Examples: So, does anyone have experience with these two pedals? Advice? Can I use either one without adding too much volume and still get a good sound? Anything I should realize/consider? Help would be greatly appreciated. Members IRG
I haven't used the HBE but it's supposed tobe a good one. SHould do what you're asking of it. I have a BBE Freq Boost, which is pretty similar, same price. I like it. You may feel like you're loosing bass - which you aren't but the upper frequencies are being accentuated. I'm tempted to get a Boosta Grande from BBE, which is not a treble booster but just anormal clean booster, and see what I like better. They are handy little pedals to have on one's board for sure. Members Folky_Grunge
Another question: Can a Treble Booster make my distortion sound clearer, too? Edit for more clarity (and what I meant by it): Less muddy, more definition.

Members Folky_Grunge
Hartman Germania, He really makes good stuff, just came out with an analog Flanger that is incredibleJ I'm sure it's really good, and the ability to pick the transistor is nice, but I'm not sure it's worth the extra money over the HBE. Members Dolf
Does it sound good at unity (or close to unity) volume? there is no "unity volume." The lowest setting on the pedal is still a little bit of a boost.
Members Folky_Grunge
there is no "unity volume."The lowest setting on the pedal is still a little bit of a boost. But how much is the boost? If it's not that noticeable I don't really care. I'm also wondering if the pedal would still sound good on a setting low enough to not give much of a boost. In other words, would it still give a good "treble booster" sound and clear up my distortion?

Members theealbatross
I'm a big fan of the Analogman Beano. It will do early Queen, but for later Queen like the video you posted, you'll want a silicon transistor loaded treble booster. Unfortunately I don't have any silicon booster recommendations. The Beano is more than I'm willing to spend. I don't really have that much money in the first place (I'm a jobless teenager), and I'd like something cheaper. That's why I'm currently most interested in the HBE Germania, it's supposed to be really good, and it's fairly cheap (only $100). Edit: And thanks for the whole germanium vs. silicon thing. I'm a big T. Rex fan, though, so I know I want a germanium treble booster.

Members Folky_Grunge
Update on situation: I went to a couple a music stores today (literally 2, there are only about four music stores in the Tacoma area, and the really sad thing about that is most of them suck). And... not that much in the way of treble boosters. A Vox (which I don't want, since I want a Rangemaster clone) and a Guild Brian May pedal (which I also don't want, since I want germanium transistors and it's probably way too expensive). So, should I just order a Germania from some online dealer?
