Should I buy a line 6 DL-4

I tried searching, but when I put "DL-4" in, it didn't seem to work?....

Hey guys. I haven't been on this site in aggeesss, but i've really been getting back into playing again lately and have been jamming with friends again, and I've got the urge to pick up some new gear .

First of all, the gear i normally use while jamming is Tokai LP > Fuzz factory > sometimes colorsound wah > peavey delta blues.

I usually just jam with a 3 piece; Me, drummer, tromboner (teehee). I'd like to pick up something for looping/delays, just because it would give us a lot more versatility in that I could start layering my sound, (plus I've never owned a delay, and I think It's about time).

I'm thinking about the DL-4, because I've heard very good things about both it's looping and delays. I've been out of the effects 'scene' for a while, but I remember it's main competitor used to be the Boss DD-20, has anything else new come out that I should take a look at?

Cliff notes: Looking for a delay for looping/layering/good shortish delays, is the DL-4 what I'm after, or should I look at something else?

Just know that you won't be able to use the different delay types and loop at the same time. Looping mode only lets you use the digital delay and you won't be able to use tap tempo while looping either. Other than that, I really like mine as a looper but I find myself using only one or two of the delays on a regular basis.

ive had bot hte DL4 and the DD20 and they are both good delay units
i prefered the ease of use of the DL4 and the looping/playback fucntions were awesome.I only changed to the DD20 as i wanted to run everything off the same powere supply (the DL4 requires 1200ma 12AC)
if i can find the rackmount version of hte DL4 im defnitelyt picking it up.

the boss DD20 has good sounds too and more input/output options (for line level fx loops this is a plus)

i wish i had kept them both!

I love the dl4, it has great delays, I also love the dd20, I'd say get both!

The dd20 might work better for you at first, cause you can move from loop function to delays.

However, reversing the loop on the dl4 is really cool.

Get both.

Get a timefactor instead.

DL4s are notorius for breaking - but to everyone recommending a pedal that's only been out a few months as an alternative, how can you vouch for your timefactor's reliability? it does have infinitely better features (and probably sound quality), but you can't say for sure it will be more reliable til you've had it a couple of years.

The DL-4 has a tendency to break down when stomping it too hard and using it in palces with a dodgy power installation. I've used mine with a dedicated power supply for a couple of years now and it still is perfect. It went through some abuse. Maybe I just got lucky, though.

There is a way to use delay while looping. However, it has limited controls and you only get to use it as "digital delay" modelling. If you really want to use delays AND loop, I'd get TWO Akai Headrush E2, and it'd still be cheaper than a DL-4. You don't get all those delay emulations, and I do love the tape delay and the tube echo.

I've borrowed a friends DL4 (which broke once and got repaired) and my Akai headrush destroys it in terms of sound quality. the DL4 sounds... dirty, weak, anemic... its hard to explain but the headrush just sounds so warm and crystal clear. also you can switch between looper and delay by pressing both footswitches at the same time. I. LOVE. It.

I also have a Deluxe Memory Man and its been interesting comparing the DMM with the DMM model on the DL4... I'm going to record some sound clips comparign these 3 pedals at some point but im pretty busy at the moment with uni work. I WILL do this some time though!

I was contemplating buying a DL4 myself. I sold my DD20 just because I wanted something different and I ended up splurging on the Timefactor. Best decision I've ever made, this thing is absolutely mindblowing.
