ever since i got my AC30, my tele has just blown me away with how amazing it sounds. they are just a great team.

however, my beloved sheraton pales in comparison. it still sounds good, but i can tell the pickups are kinda "meh".

does anyone have any recommendations for replacements? i want them to be gold covered humbuckers, but i dont know what type!

i have been thinking GFS, but who knows.

i want that humbucker fullness, but also some bite and clarity. no p90's, i wanna keep the sheraton a humbucker guitar...

You know... I find my Sheraton is just "meh" compared to it's sister the Casino. But even the Casino was "meh" plugged in until I put some Fralins in it.

I am not going to bother messing with the Sheraton because it doesn't really have "it" when it is unplugged. I never play it. So I will be selling it.

My suggestion! Put the Sheraton on CL or spam thread and pickup a Casino! :thu:

AHHH!! this is creepy, i was just thinking about doing this...

but ive wanted this guitar for so long, and i LOVE the way it looks and plays. i DO want a casino though. but i dont need it. i am taking a stand and im going to make my sheraton the best it can be. i wanted it for so long, i just cant give it up.

and i dont know what it is, but from the second i picked this sheraton up, it just had that magic. it plays so well and it does have "it" when unplugged. i dunno man. wood is different sometimes.

If you're after pickups on a fairly tight budget, I think GFS is the way to go. I can only speak from experience of what I have (3 'lil Killer' hotrails types in my strat), but they're great quality at more than fair prices. I think it's probably worth getting some that are towards the top of the GFS range, but that would still make them cheaper than most other good quality pickups.

Kent Armstrong are good too, and cheap over here - but not sure what the prices are like to yourself.

For reals. Some guitars have it some don't. Fenders current batch of MIMs seem to have it just for the sake of discussion. Anyway I am not sure how much you are looking to spend on pickups all I can say is don't cut corners there... Oh I can say one more thing. If you plan on using the stock gold covers on there for a new pickup make damned certain the pole pieces line up to the cover holes. I made that mistake on the Casino.

You're right the Sheraton does look bitch'n.

yeah i may just go with some brighter humbuckers from GFS. im hoping someone who has some will chime in...

I have these and they are really nice humbuckers, nice and bright and jangly, I think they would be great in a semi....they have gold too.

they are the first humbuckers I've ever had where I've liked the neck pickup, they are usually too dark for me, but not this one.

man, you are so on. the current MIM fenders are just great. my tele is a MIM from i think 2004 and the neck on that guitar just gets better and better as the years go by. i stuck a GFS three saddle tele bridge on it and 52 RI pickups in it and wow, wow wow wow. its my number 1:

awesome! i was looking at those and the retrotrons. judging by how awesome the split HB's looked in starcasters, i bet those would look amazing in my shari.

thanks melx! you helped me make my mind up!

no problem, they were a massive improvement on the 'duncan designed' ones in my squier, so I think you would notice an improvement over stock epi's. I'm not gonna claim they are as good as gibson pickups or anything silly like that, but they are very nice.....I was pretty doubtfull because of the price but I was really suprised how nice they sounded. :thu:
they look cool too. :)

yeah i have heard nothing but good things about their pickups. i KNOW that my epi pickups dont sound very good. anything would be an improvement, and theres no way im paying $100 a pop for gibson pickups. thats way too much money.

that was exactly what I though...I thought there's no way they can sound worse and they look awsome, so I couldn't really lose!

Just my 2 cents...

I have the GFS vintage splits in my Fender toronado, and the Memphis Retrotrons in my Ibanez artcore. I do like both pickups, but the Retro trons are WAY better.

They are some of the best pickups I have ever played.

I had a pair of Vintage '59 GFS in an Epi LP and wasn't overly impressed. The Sheraton is a nice guitar. I would look at a set of Gibson '57 Classic+ as mentioned earlier. Or something like a Seymour Duncan Alnico IIs, Seth Lovers perhaps would be a nice choice. On the electric guitar forum, there is a guy named Brian, he makes BFG pups or something, ask around. Very well received pups over there, and good prices too. The equivalent of Monsterpiece in this forum.

Maybe try using a straight cord for the epiphone? Those huge coil cords suck a lot of sparkle and life out of your pickups.

you know i thought about that, but i tried with various cables and thats not it. those core one cables are designed very well. i used it with me tele too and my tele has plenty of bite.

if i dont like the split hb in the bridge, i may try an open coil like minnehond did. looks sharp.

I plan on purchasing an Epiphone Sheraton sometime soon and replacing the pickups. For the bridge pickup, I want an SD Pearly Gates zebra, and a gold covered SD Alnico II Pro for the neck position. I also plan on putting in push-pull pots. I should be able to get a wide variety of tones with this setup.
