Members kriista
I remember a couple of years ago reading a well written bit on why the WH1 was much better than the subsequent/reissues. Something about the buffers or whatnot.I think it was on the analogman page, but I can't find any hint of that on there, or anything like what I had read before. Does anyone know where that was(or is)? Also, does anyone other than analogman does true-bypassing for the WH1?
Members willhaven
I heard that the difference was in who manufactured the chip that did the pitch shifting. I hear the company went out of business and stopped making the chip and that subsequent Whammy models didn't do as good of a job, but that the WH4 is pretty damn close. Members Collapse
There are some interface differences between the various reissues.Basically the old ones glitch out in a way that most users perceive as cooler sounding.
Members kriista
Yeah I know that IVL or whatever were called went belly up taking the WH1 secrets with them. But I could've sworn there was some other stuff besides that involved (like the WH2 has the same chip but a different buffer/preamp and as a result doesn't sound as good). The WH1 are pretty darn hard to find too. Before I was trying to buy one I kept seeing them on ebay (albeit for alot). Now there's not a one...anywhere. Members willhaven
I saw a few on eBay recently. I think they sold for like 5-600 or something crazy.
Members kriista
Anyone know of other people who mod the WH1 to truebypass? Or if it's something thats DIYable?
Members PeelingPaint98
I didn't do extensive sound testing but I think the size of the WH-1 is more valuable than the percieved sound differences . . .
