Members shooto
I'm a tard about this- The site says this about the pedal: Use the GDI21 either for direct recording output with a speaker simulation or as a standard active direct injection box in bypass mode. what I want to know is, can I use this as a distortion pedal up front without the speaker sim?...is that what the Use the GDI21 ...as a standard active direct injection box in bypass mode. part means? thanks
Members Kassanova
Dude, I don't mean to sound like an ass but why'd you buy an amp sim if you wanted a distortion? You can't separate it from its primary function. Its not a distortion box. If you want it clean, you can put the 2nd switch on the clean setting or if you just want to use it as a DI box, step on the pedal and that's what it does in bypass mode - acts as a DI box. That's like buying a Zvex Box Of Metal and trying to use it as a noise gate. The GDI21 is a DI box/Amp simulator. All distortion comes from amp simulation. The only way to shut them off is to bypass them. Then its just a regular DI box. That's all you get for $35 or so.
Members shooto
well, I obviously worded my situation wrong- I want the amp sim but not the speaker sim...is that using it as a DI box in bypass mode?...and what does that mean? is it meant to be used as just an amp sim going into a board (without an amp but with speaker sim) or can you just use it as an amp sim without the speaker sim and have it go into a clean amp or channel? Members Seth Bean
You can use it however...but its just like a tech 21 sansamp and Ive used those before with an amp...in fact a lot of people do im sure...
Members Pankot
You can't have the amp sim without the speaker sim on the GDI21 - you can only turn them both on/off together. LED OFF -> Unchanged (but buffered/balanced) signal for DILED ON -> amp and speaker sim. It's meant for plugging straight into a board - just like the pedal it clones... I use it as a distortion pedal into a clean amp...works fine, you'll probably find out that you won't need to put the drive above 50%, even for high gain stuff. Members stunningbabe
It's damn fine unit. I've Sansamp GT6 too...and it does not lose out to GT6 at all. You cant go wrong with it. While you're at it...buy the equally brilliant ADI21 too. The tone is warm!!
