So this new SL-20...

As far as I can tell it sounds like a really choppy but controllable tremelo but isn't like a trem at all in what it does to the sound. Rather it uses granular-esque algos to chop the sound being fed into it into little controllable segments. Might possibly allow tricky Greenwood-esque stuff that was previously only possible with an max/msp patch. Here is a demo of the slicer effect on a recent boss multi effects unit. I imagine it is like this but fancy:

Ohh... that vid is better... just saw it.

I can't tell if it's just a very controllable trem (complex, sequenced waveforms) or if it samples the input and plays it back in altered form (again, with complex sequneces, but with the sample reshaped). Seems pretty interesting, though.

The Boss SL-20, Moogerfooger Murf, and Adrenalinn III are similar enough we may need to compile a spreadsheet. They all have this idea of generating beat-synced patterns out of incoming audio.

Features that the SL-20 seems to have that are not in Adrenalinn III:

- Pitch shifting (in one of the demo vids, octave-below notes are produced)
- Loop recording

On the other hand there are upgrade kits (for new features, etc.) that can be purchased for Adrenalinn I and Adrenalinn II pedals, indicating that the Adrenalinn III is probably also upgradeable. Boss pedals are not known for being upgradable. Also, the MIDI In jack on the SL-20 is marked "Tempo", implying a much more limited MIDI implementation than the Adrenalinn III's. The Adrenalinn responds to MIDI Program Change, MIDI Note Number, MIDI Continuous Controller, etc. You can transpose its Arpeggiator to other keys with a MIDI keyboard, for example.

Price could be a deciding factor, especially if the SL-20 sells for more than $150 less than an Adrenalinn III

You can't really compare them, yes the SL20 might be able to do some of the things that the Adrenalinn III can do but the Adrenalinn has about 1000 more things that it can do. The amp modeling alone is superb and the drum machine in it easily trumps any of the little Boss/Roland drum machines. For an extra $150 I wouldn't think twice about getting an Adrenalinn, but then again I already have one.

I seem to recall that the first version of the Adrenalinn had pitch shifting effects but I could be wrong.

might want to add modfx to that list.. and maybe even the korg ax3000g since it has the tempo controlled sequenced effects... either way, i'd love to see / hear a comparison between the sl-20 and the others...
