Un True Bypassing a DMM?

Yeah, yeah...call me crazy, I wanna know if I can mod my DMM so that the preamp is on all the time, so I can use it like a boost at the end of my chain. I love what it does to teh tone. I guess I could just trade with someone for an older RI....but anyway, can it be done?

They haven't approved my account over at diy or I would've posted there. ;)

find where the bucket brigade chip feeds into the output signal (or back into the feedback loop) and have a toggle/stomp switch break that when engaged.

in theory that should work. I've never seen a schematic of the thing.

then again, the preamp circuit and delay circuit might be so intertwined with each-other that the mod you're requesting might be impossible. the key is to find where the preamp pot is connected withing the rest of the circuit.

IIRC, the DMM comes wired that way from the factory (with the preamp section always active), so if yours has been modified to TB, putting it back to stock shouldn't be a problem. However, if E-H has switched to TB (essentially moving the preamp section to the circuit side of the switch, rather than the input jack side), it might be trickier. But nothing is impossible...

Sorry to hijack ... but it doesn't seem like this question would be worth a new thread since there are already 2 or 3 pertaining to DMM's already.

Mod question -- can you mod a DMM for Tap Tempo?

I love the sound of these ... but tap is almost mandatory for me. Thanks in advance.

Anything is possible... but you'd need to construct a complete logic-controlled tempo circuit, to measure the number of milliseconds between taps and translate it into a resistance value the DMM will understand. Not a small job...

Has anyone successfully done this?

if anyone can do any of these things, it would be Puretube.

yeah, they switched the DMMs to "true" bypass a few years ago without consulting him, the designer, so I guess I should wait for him to chime in here...
