Members Jules-RM
Only if people stop buying the old ones, I'm guessing. All the other big pedals are still available that have XO versions.
Members Destructobot
Either way they only have enough chips to keep making them for a few more years I think. I'm picking up a '90's attached cord one with the wooden box for $175 off CL tomorrow morning. It'll be my third DMM I figure if I fall out of love with it again I can at least make $50 or so selling it.

Members NITEFLY182
Major companies will redesign their pedals if they need to change a part. They aren't just going to let their cash cow walk out the door just because one part goes byebye.

It is most likely the XO is using the same BBD chips (looking at the spec) so I'm pretty sure are thinking about a respin. Visual Sound make a BBD chip for instance. All the other big pedals are still available that have XO versions.that quite simply isn't true.Qtron Qton+PulsarOctave Multiplexerthe rest will follow, it makes no sense for them to continue making both.It seems pretty common knowledge that the DMM isn't available for UK shops to order anymore...so they obviously aren't shipping to the UK distro anymore. we will be full xo by the end of the year on the DMM (if not before) I suspect there are more units around in shops in the US, so they will be available for a while longer. Also according to Hotrox the bass synth is not being made anymore either (new xo version coming soon) It's happening, believe it. There are so many people in denial, it's funny. Interesting.... I'm after a Microsynth (or even a Bass version as thye seem good on guitar), do I bet the farm now on a big box version, or hold out for an XO - and hope it has all the same features ? Or sit and procrastinate on the internet reading about it ?!

I've heard the newer production BBD's have poorer performance.

Members echodeluxe
there are other companies making the same type of chip. EHX has MORE than enough capital (and reason) to pay a foundry to make the MN3005 just for them. i mean, {censored}, i could! the spec sheet and artwork for the silicon is readily available, all you gotta do is take it to a silicon foundry and say "i need 5,000 of these", they will give you a quote, done. there is no reason these chips cant be made anymore. dont you guys know a marketing ploy when you see it? Yeah, it doesn't make much sense. It's not that big a deal to get a chip made when you're a decent sized company if they needed to, especially if they ordered in the bulk they can, especially if they ordered long before they run out and allowed the factory to produce the chips during "off" times rather then scheduling an exact block and ship date. Yeah my ex-gf dad owns a hardware store and I've been trying to get her to ask her dad to see if he can get the Weller at wholesale for me. Members echodeluxe
yeah if you can, get on that. DIY electronics (music or other) is so fun. the way electricity behaves and the rules and whatnot is really fascinating and if you are looking into learning something new, thats a great thing to get into. just be aware there is plenty of math and formulas. but anywho, amp_surgeon and i had a conversation about designing our own silicon. we dont know if thats gonna happen or not, but we did some research and found out how easy it would really be. thats why the entire "running out of the mojo chips" argument is so dumb. there are TONS of silicon foundries out there. Members dangerous dan
The only flaw in the argument of "why don't EHX just go to a silicon fab and get some MN3005 made, the the spec sheet and artwork for the silicon is readily available" - it's the IP. Do EHX own it ? Probably not. Then they would have to get their own BBD design made or liscence the IP from Panasonic. If Visual Sound can now produce the MN3207 and MN3102 then they must have liscenced it from Panasoinc, so potentially EHX could do the same. EHX need to {censored} or get off the pot on this one - otherwise pedal geeks on the internet will debate it infinitum.
Members Loobster
I just ordered mine. Not exactly like they're rare, but it'll be cool to own something else that's discontinued. Not quite the same status as the Pink Flesh though. I do think the DMM is a must-have pedal though.

Being a chem major means I've done most of the math in some form or another in the past at some point. I'm gonna get on it eventually, I just have to make the time and do it. Not sure if I'll start with a really easy project or jump in and build something that's useful to me... we'll have to see.

EHX like to have the upper hand. im sure people would find out if EHX went to someone to have them made, then the jig would be up. who knows.
