Members krisnrg
Hey I need some sort of boost in my pedal board I'm currently running this: Korg DT-10>MXR 10 band EQ>Boss SD-1> Boss DS-1>True Bypass loop 1 > Boss ME-50True Bypass loop 2> Boss DD-6 (I keep it in tap tempo mode always and just turn it on when I turn on the loop) Anyways I was think of the LPB-1 since its pretty cheap. But I figure in that case I can just get a MXR 6 band for around the same price and move the 10 band EQ to the effects loop. That way I have more control of my sound. Would the linear boost be better though. Or would they be kinda similar? Thanks guys.
Members Saturnine10
I didnt think the 6 band Mxr had a foot switch? Dont you want to be able to turn the boost on and off? I have a Micro amp and just love it!! Its not a clean boost, but it still rocks..

So you'd have to go for the LPB or Microamp for a dedicated boost.
Members krisnrg
but cant I just turn up all the sliders? or would I fish n chips be better? I feel I would break the Fish n Chips easily. Or Maybe a could get another 10 band eq. That will boost my amp into break up. But the one I have has it own job to do already... lol

You could always go for the Boss GE-7 too, which has the seperate volume boost/cut slider.

Members kishjor
EHX LPB-1!
Members krisnrg
ok so my setup is in the first post right. Right now I use my Hot Rod Deluxe on the clean channel with the MXR EQ to tweak my clean sound. Then I use my SD-1 for low and hi gain sounds. (Not liking the DS-1 too much, I will try to mod it) To get a more distorted sound I change pickups. But I feel I'm not taking full advantage on my tube amp. I would like to use it for power amp saturation. How can I achieve this? I want to have nice balanced but thick cleans and go into power amp saturation. With the EHX LPB-1 i can achieve this right? How would I set that up? thanks
Members Dropsix
I currently use my MXR 6 Band as a boost by pushing all the sliders up to the 9db mark. My crunch channel on my screamer just didn't have enough saturation on it so I used the MXR and now it has just as much gain as my lead channel, but its much clearer. I'm pretty sure boosting the frequencies results in an increase in volume. When I turn my MXR off I can barely hear my amp (especially the clean channel) but when it's on there a big difference in volume. I think you should rethink using the MXR. P.S All you gotta do to get power amp distortion is turn that bitch all the way up to 11 (or just very loud in general). Seriously if you're not doing a gig or band practice you'll most likely find the police outside your house if you do that. Closest you could get would be to set your pre-amp volume as low as possible and crank the master volume.
Members IRG
I would put the MXR in the effects loop. I have the 10 band too, and I HAD to put it in the loop, became noisy out front. I decided to try my Bad Monkey as a boost, and it's terrific out front in this applicaiton. Since it has separate bass and trebl it acts as both an EQ, volume and gain boost. I turn the gain all the way down, the volume at noon. Makes my amps dirty channel much better, and most pedals sound better with it on too. In fact, I am even thinking about selling my EQ, because I just don't really need it now.
