Rack Units, No FX Loop...How does the Edge, etc, do it?

I'm looking forward to trying this out...I know a lot of my favorite guitarists/bands ran rack reverbs and delays in front of AC30's and Twins, etc...it will be interesting to see how it changes my amp settings and the rest of my chain, to deal with the headroom/level issues, both going in and coming out of the TC. Can't really "slam the input".

I don't know this for sure as it applies to Edge, but the way a lot of guys do it is using a line out from the amp, through the effects, and then into a separate power amp and speakers. You can either mod the amp to install the line out, or you can get a unit that plugs into a speaker jack that does the same thing (essentially pads the output down to line level).

This pic is probably out of date now because the last time I saw footage of U2, The Edge had a massive rack unit with god knows what in it, but it might help:

I use an EH Memory Man Deluxe (which is what The Edge used before he used the TC Electronic stuff) straight into a Deluxe Reverb Reissue (which doesn't have an FX loop either) I've tried the Memory Man with other amps and it did sound a bit muddy, but with the DRRI being such a great clean amp it sounded fine, very nice and clear especially with a single coil guitar, if you want the slightly distorted sound on top of the Echo, you might try using a pedal in front of the delay rather than the OD channel on the amp.
