so it's finally come down to this...

Okay, I had a few threads up about amps before and I didnt really know what to get. Then I decided that I am getting either the fender blues deluxe, or the fender blues junior.

I've got about 700 euros so its enough for one.

My main question is, do I really need a Blues Deluxe? it's kind of big and it sounds fairly similar to the junior.

And I'm not really in a band now, but I'd like to keep that possibility and I dont know if the blues junior would be up for it if I had a band; it's small and I dont want to push it a lot to have it sound loud, i want the loudness to come from itself... if that makes any sence.

But I really don't know how the blues junior would sound if I'm at a rehearsal or a gig... it looks very small. How does it sound when cranked?

So there's 2 options:

1) Blues Junior + another pedal with the rest of the moneys

2) Blues Deluxe and I don't really need to worry about volume issues and stuff like that.

well, yeah, maybe I confused you with this {censored}load of writing, but please reply; or yeah, vote...

I was using my friend's Deluxe last night at a party. It's a great amp for loud clean tones; but if you want to overdrive the tubes in it, you'd have to be playing in a really large room (much larger than your bedroom). It's also a very bassy/boomy sounding amp with its stock setup.

For your situation, the Blues Junior would probably be more ideal. I would even consider a Pro Junior if you want to be able to overdrive the tubes at a manageable volume.

The Pro Junior only has a tone and volume control, you'd need to crank it to get overdrive or use an attenuator. The Blues Junior has a pre amp volume and a master volume so surely this would be better for overdrive, right?

I've never actually played through a Blues Jr. or a Pro Jr.; but yes, it seems you would need to crank the Pro to get overdrive. That's what I do with my VibroChamp, and it's pure

hmm, well, thankls for the replies everyone...

I dont really want to overdrive the tubes, I'll run my pedals through and get my dirt through that, but I also want that ear ripping clean sound.

so, blues deluxe?

I tried it out twice, once clean and once with a big muff. both of these times it was awesome; it could also get pretty quiet and thats what I also need if I'm to play in my bedroom.

I'll think it through but i think the deluxe would fit me better; i'm no blues player who fiddles with little overdriven amps.

FWIW, I voted for the Blues Deluxe because I think it will be best suited to what you want; both now and potentially later if you do get into another band.

They seem to get mixed reviews, but I've never been sorry to see one come through the door of the studio - they always record great IMO. Good amps.

If this is not your first amp and you take music seriously (which it sounds like you do), I'd scour e-bay and craigslist for something slightly used. I'd bet you can find something really nice with your current budget. Buying new music equipment is like buying a new car. It's just a bad investment. You can easily get the Fender Blues Deluxe for $350 on e-bay. Find your dream amp that you will keep forever, look for a slightly used one, and consider it an investment.

i have a twin reverb and its quiet enough for teh bedroom and loud enough for stadiums.cant loose with it.

I am a very happy BJr owner, and will not sell this amp . . .

. . . but i would love to have the bigger one too !

I LOVE the drive & more drive channels of that amp.

Lot of folks do not like it, but i love it !

And it has more head room for when playing live !

Very good idea of the drive channels - not brutal or even mid-gain, but alot more drive than what i can get from my BJr. that is for sure !

;)

Me either, but even shoegazers play through overdriven tube amps ;)

If and when you find yourself in a gigging rock band situation, I agree that it would be preferrable to have a Deluxe because it will allow you more headroom. However, if you plan to be spending a year or more mostly playing in your home for your own enjoyment, or for recording, I still say the Blues Jr. is more practical. My $.02.

As an owner, the deluxe is a great amp. For the money, it is an unbelievable amp, especially used. Very clean, loud, but can play at lower volumes with great tone. It takes pedals very well and the reverb channel is subtle but nice. Dont expect much crunch from the overdrive but pedals can and do help.

I would go for the Deluxe as well if you want to keep the possibility of being in a band open. You'll appreciate the extra power to cut through the mix and the extra clean headroom.

I sometimes think my Bad Cat isn't enough. I really think my drummer is {censored}ing with me when he tells me he can hear me over everyone else. The other guitarist is on a half-stack.

My old roomate have both BD abd BJR. The JR is probably what you need (for now). It would be perfect for your bedroom, small compact and great with pedals. The BD is perfect if you do have a band, but it would be way too loud for your room. It has great cleans and just enough low end for a band situation and it also takes pedals very well (I actually used this amp for atleast 4-5 months with my band and I miss it).

YOu really want my suggestion? Look into a Fender Deluxe Reverb. I think it would be the perfect candidate for your needs right now and the future!

Blues Deluxe 1X12 (40 watts) + reverb
Blues Junior 1X19 (15 watts)
DEluxe Reverb 1X12 (22 watts) with trem + reverb

I agree with FF71. A deluxe would be a spectacular tone machine and pretty much ideal for your current and future situations.

Also, if you're looking into great amps at that price range, try to find a place that will let you try a Vox AC-15 (doesn't matter which kind). I tried a lot of fenders, but the Vox was the sound in my head, and it gets much much louder than most people would expect 15 watts to get.

That said, I got a Twin for $650 that I keep around. They have about as much clean headroom as you could possibly get, sound great, and if you're patient, you can usually score one for pretty cheap. I'd much rather have a used Twin than a new Blues Deluxe any day of the week.
