Members Faldoe
With GAS that never seems to end I'm curious about the EHX HOG, seems cool but not sure if it is worth the price tag? Any HOG users out there care to comment? Or people that had a HOG but sold it because...........

Members tubezipper
Yes. You should buy an Electro-Harmonix Harmonic Octave Generator
Members thepalmcivet
i have it and it has leaped up there with the DL4 as one of the most powerful sound-shaping tools i've ever touched. limitless landscapes. strumming full chords with tracking on each note creates organ-guitar sounds that i've never heard anywhere else. the 6-preset foot controller is mandatory if you play live. Members Instrospection
The Hog must be awesome, yeah! Imagine all those harmonies. I think that the price and the size of the unit have put me off, but someday i'll have to get around to picking one up....
Members Liberty Belle
i almost bought one,i even ordered it in to the store that didnt have one but i decided its not worth it to me as i wouldnt use it enough to justify the cost. i still want one and ill probably get one some day but only if i have spare cash. Members Instrospection
i decided its not worth it to me as i wouldnt use it enough to justify the cost. . Yeah, I think that's another one of my major stumbling blocks--the price vs. actual use. It would be awesome to have around for recording (instead of tracking 3 parts individually, you could just do them via HOG), but then again, I like harmonized parts that are a little off time with each other on recordings. Live, it wouldn't matter so much, but i'd probably use it even less live than in the studio.
Members WorkingClassDan
You really have to create uses for it. But yup, it's very powerful. I've used it on my new album to do faux organ (of course) but to also approximate string sounds. It's quite inspiring. The less people who use this pedal the happier I'll be. Members Liberty Belle
99% of my songs are with distortion/fuzz on full so i hardly see the HOG getting much use personally,it'd just be an expensive toy to me.
Members placebo62
Its great......but I am selling mine.
Members comfortablynumb
It's a terrific pedal.. so many sounds in it. A must have recording tool, in my opinion. I'm getting rid of mine, though. While it does a lot of great sounds, only a couple of them are something I would use. Not enough to justify the cost and space it takes up (HOG, plus exp. pedal PLUS the preset controller)..
Members leftystratman
just wait till they make micro HOG! I'm pretty sure they'll release something like that in a couple of years (maybe wishful thinking).
Members echodeluxe
micro hog. it would still be huge.
Members spoonie g
I found it to be far too digital sounding and the fact that it wasnt midi switchable was a big downer to me.
Members Fender&EHX4ever
I bought mine a few months ago, and I haven't scratched the surface of its possibilities. I just learned how to use the freeze-gliss properly a few weeks ago. It takes some practice to get that eerie bending sound between chord changes. Here's a clip using the HOG for synth strings:http://soundclick.com/share?songid=5918533
Members echodeluxe
i really want to play with one in the studio coming up, but im afraid i will find some cool setting, use it on the EP, and then have to buy a HOG to use ti live. grrr. i am looking at the POG though, im pretty sure thats all i would need. Members WorkingClassDan
Not enough to justify the cost and space it takes up (HOG, plus exp. pedal PLUS the preset controller)..I just got a dedicated pedalboard for the HOG, exp pedal and controller. It's its own self-contained unit; easy to lug to the studio or sell as a package if it comes to that. I also put in a power strip because with a converter to change the US power it adds another big chunk of gear in there.
Members SpectralJulian
I'm going to get one eventually I think. I know I don't need one. But honestly I don't need anything because I could make music with anything
Members TomCTC
If only they just made a smaller, cheaper pedal that had the freeze gliss.
Members Supreme Pancake
I love my HOG. Even though I switch it out now and then with a whammy 4 (I sometimes keep both on). I would only suggest it for people who are looking for something that gives a lot of filtered octave textures.
Members Lanefair
It's so expensive that you have to constantly weigh it up. I mean, A HOG is great, but you could get another tube amp for the money and kick ass with a stereo setup.
Members pbone
It basically boils down to this: the HOG is so specialized and has such a unique sound that you virtually need to have it in order to justify its cost.
Members darkstriker
The HOG is a great tool. I had one I borrowed for about two months. the problem with it is that (if you play live or compose) it won't fall naturally into your already existing songs, or at least not easily. In order to explore it really well you'd have to compose specifically taking the HOG in account. Although a friend of mine managed to play great classics from the eighties while using the freeze volume to fill the sound with chords. Then again, he's one of the best guitarists i've ever seen.
