hey guys, new to harmony central and looking forward to getting some good advice from everyone. Ok, i just obtained legally a line6 dl-4 delay modeler. yeah i know. Im going to trade it in for something analog, warm, doesnt suck my tone, isnt noisy, and hopefully doesnt suck period. open to suggestions. remember, analog and under 249 U.S. dollars

Welcome aboard! There's lots of good stuff to choose from. I prefer the EHX Deluxe Memory Man for its warm tone and true bypass. Sounds like an old tape echo to me. The downside is that they are about $320. Maxon, Ibanez and a few others, whose names escape me, make some nice analog delays that are in your price range. There are also some modded options by Keeley, Analogman, and a few others who mod some of the Boss digital delays to warm up the tone. Hopefully this is enought to get you started. Of course, your ear is going to be the best judge of what sounds good to you. Happy hunting!

Used EHX deluxe memory man is the way to go. Maybe if your lucky a used Maxon AD. Those Boss and Ibanez small boxes sound great but have VERY short delay times. They really don't compare to the analog setting your Line-6 has.

The Deluxe Memory Man is the best mass available analog delay I have tried. I recently got a MXR Carbon Copy which is really nice but the delay is not as solid as the DMM. If you can deal with the box size then the DMM is it.

I use a EHX DMM as well. seems to be a consensus around here.

That said, you should check out the Malekko. The online sound clips are amazing!

Also, nothing really wrong w/ rocking a DL4 either. I use it in conjunction w/ the DMM. The analog sounds aren't true analog, but it's a small price to pay for versatility

I'm going to be running my RE-20, eventually a Timefactor, and an analog delay as well (ideally with a self oscillation switch like the Keeley AD-9.) Is the Malekko worth an extra $100 (after shipping/expression pedal) over the AD-9 which doesn't require another external expression pedal taking up real estate?

You might consider waiting a week on the new BBE double delay. Is said to be 2 DM-2's in the housing.

If it is anything like their current line-up - it'll be freaking amazing.

I can't wait.

it does look like a great pedal, but i think it's just 2 separate time knobs that can be switched, not two actual delay circuits. still a cool idea though.

and my vote goes to the DMM too. :thu:

^^ I just picked up the CC today, after trying it at GC and, while not being impressed, I was content that it did what it was supposed to do. This, for 150, is quite a feat, so I'm hoping it sounds good with my setup.

thanks for your suggestions guys. I came to a decision last week and i got the mxr carbon copy. Do not, I repeat, do not let this little box fool you. Three knobs and a modulation switch is all you get but i am really happy with the effect. I cant notice any of my tone being sucked and my guitar really comes through sounding unaffected thanks to the tru bypass switch. Lets not forget the delay, 20 to 600ms long enough for me, plus you can get alot of really spaced out sounds. also, great value only 149 bucks. sorta cheap enough to add to your effect arsenal without breaking the bank. definiteley cheaper than the dmm, which is a fantastic pedal, and still able to give me the spacey airfilled delay that only ANALOG CAN DELIVER!!!!!!!!
