Members Vanhalen64
Hey, I normally don't post here on effects but was wondering if I could get a helping hand! I have a Maxon Distortion and Sustain that i never used. I plug it in once in a while and use it for a bit. The other day i plugged it in and it started doing strange things. The tone knob works fine but the gain knob stops working when if you turn it anticlockwise after 2. from 2 to the limit, it works fine but when it reaches two it crackles and then no sound. How can i fix it? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!!!
Members IvIark
Pot could be on its way out. Spray it in every crevice with contact cleaner first to see if that sorts it out. If not it's time for a new pot
Members Vanhalen64
Can it be the pot even if the total playing time for it is no more than 1 hour?
Members IvIark
The pot could have been sat on a damp shelf for 5 years before it was fitted to your pedal. You aren't going to have damaged it in that time, but with components like this you just don't know

Members IvIark
If you've only had it a short time though and you bought it new you should send it straight back. No way I'd be happy with a scratchy pot after limited use if it is still under warranty.
