looking for a phaser

I have a Deluxe Moon Phaser, and it's awesome. :thu: Lots of different opportunities, from subtle to more far-out. The tremo-phase settings are pretty cool too. I haven't gotten to try it in stereo yet, but I'm hoping to buy a second amp in a few weeks... It's gonna be great. :)

I have a moon phaser and a quasar, both are great. I think the moon phaser is a little warmer, great for a more subtle phase, does a nice vibe kind of sound, doesn't get as crazy as the quasar. It has a slight volume boost and it just adds a fullness and sparkle to your sound. The trem on it is ok but not choppy enough for me. The quasar is clearer, more "hi-fi" sounding on normal phase sounds and does alot of cool filtery sweeps and more unusual sounds. With all the controls it's a little harder to tweek in, though maybe that's just because I haven't had it long enough yet. I haven't tried a Polyphase but it seems more similar to the quasar. If I had to choose one it would be the Red Witch, but I hope I never have to.

so ive been looking at the nebula, quasar, dlx moon, retrosonic and polyphase. im kinda leaning towards the polyphase, but its 24v which is a pain. so anybody have good experience with the others?

buy the polyphase form analogman and click the option for the UK powersupply,it works here in oz. thats exactly what i use with my polychorus.

the smallstone is a cool phaser too, maybe get one of them.

yeah, ive almost decided on the stereo polyphase, because its got exp jacks and is stereo, so ill have fun with my SMMH, if the subdecay one had stereo outs id probably get that, but it doesn't so i guess its a no go

I'm yet to try the Moon Phaser and this thread has me GASsing again. The Quasar however is magnificent. Haven't bought one yet but it'll be my next phaser.

I've got an Infinitphase, Retrosonic, Nano stone, a PH2 (for today only) and have recently sold off my second PH1r (which is cool). The retro is on my board at the moment. The IF might see some studio use again.

I have an MXR Phase 100 reissue (non-script) and it's cool. It has four different wave settings, with regeneration in the 2nd and 4th settings (or 1st and 3rd from the left!). It's not as swirly as i'd like at lower settings, but it has a good overall range, is true bypass, and has no volume drop.

You may like the Boss PH-3. It's not my bag, but may be yours. They should call it a "Phlanger", because it's closer to a flanger, with some phase stuff (ie: goes "woyonnggg" at the deepest part). But it depends on what you want--the PH-3 is a more modern sound with more extreme capabilities.

Small Stone is pretty cool, too. It has a really deep, lush, swirly sound. A bit of a volume drop, though.

Retro-SonicPhaser.jpg

I love the sound of my MXR EVH Phaser when it's on, but can't live the the tone sucking when it's off... so I just ordered a Retro-Sonic Phaser from a buddy who does custom pedals... True bypass, quieter, a level and depth knob... and it should be here in a day or two.

you might keep in mind that of the phasers you listed, some sound absolutely nothing like each other. perhaps determining whatcha want in terms of actual sounds might yield some good results for you, but if that doesnt really matter at all then theyre all good choices.

This is what should have been said by someone at the beginning of thread (including my response)- I think we're all too concerned w/ yapping about our favorites. Those are all VERY different choices...

yeah, i do kinda realize that, thanks for pointing it out.

what i like is a nice watery phase, more liquid than the phase 90, and not too obvious. i was all set on a retrosonic when i saw the quasar and polyphase. those two seem similar in the fact that they can go all whacked out. i doubt i would be using the filter stuff much, but it looks like you can get some great variable phase tones in those!
