Big Muff "disappearing guitar"

When I play my Big Muff through my Marshall DSL 100 it loses all definition in a band setting. It's there, but it just doesn't cut through. With my Twin Reverb though, it sounds great live. I think it's the fact that the Marshall has a thinner sound and the Fender has more mids, but I really don't know. Anybody have the same issues or have any suggestions?

You could try modding it to not lose mids, if you know how to do that kind of thing. I'm sure someone will have a link to some mods. Otherwise, I bet you could find someone here to do it for you.

Big Muff's are notorious "mid cutters" so if the Fender has more mids that makes total sense, because it will be replacing what the Muff takes out. You could try putting an EQ after the Muff with its mid levels boosted. Or even better, put them both in a loop so that you can stomp them in together.

interesting, as its usually the other way around.

The Twin has an even sound that responds extremely well to EQ settings. Every pedal I own sounds great through it. Through most Marshalls I've tried, some pedals sound great, while others don't.

For example, I think that distortions like the Rat cut through very well with a Marshall. Most fuzzes however, seem lost in the mix and thin. I crank all the midrange in my marshall and all it seems to do is add a high midrange that just makes things brittle.

That being said, I just got the marshall back from being worked on and they guy put EL34s back in it, which I hate (it had KT88s). It used to be a monster, but now it's a thin piece of crap.
