Members K2000
I've got a Boss pedal that is screwing up my fuzz, downstream. I was told it's because Boss' buffers don't play nice with certain fuzz (?) I can't put the fuzz upstream, the Boss really needs to be first. Is there a way to neutralize the buffer, with a mod or maybe a DIY box that goes in-between Boss and fuzz?

Members Collapse
You want this. You could probably build one very cheaply if you chose to do so.

My problem is that the Boss makes the Meathead sound lifeless and cruddy, and I need them both on.
Members Collapse
I suppose that presents a different problem.
Members K2000
Is there another chorus that has a lo-cut and two outputs (clean, effected) like the Boss, but unbuffered?
Members cloudscapes
I'm unsure what it is exactly what you mean. are you looking for a chorus (modded or unmodded) that will still privide chorus *while* being unbuffered, or no buffer when the effect is off and buffer when the effect is on, assuming you'd want to use the fuzz without the effect? because as far as I know, no pedal as complex as a chorus can function without a buffer. however it might be possible to find a different pedal with a buffer that doesn't affect your fuzz in a negative way. Members andreas
There's no such thing as an unbuffered (in the sense that its output signal appears to the next pedal as coming straight from the pickups) pedal when it is on. The circuit itself (regardless of if there are input/output buffers) will most likely output a low impedance signal, which is what the fuzz doesn't like. You'd need some sort of low-to-high impedance converter to get where you want to go, but I'm not sure what such a device would do to the tone. /Andreas
Members K2000
I'm not sure, but I think that the Meathead is a silicon based Fuzzface. If you had a Fuzzface that needed to be downstream and was sounding cruddy, would there be a solution? Some way to get the signal into a state that the Fuzzface would thrive on? (meaning maybe I have been posing the question the wrong way).
Members monkeyland
andreas already gave you the answer. the reason your fuzz sounds like crap is that it wants to be in contact with your pickups. even if the chorus was true bypass it would mess up the sound when you turned it on. Members MrMunky
Just to be clear . . . you're running the guitar into the Bass Chorus, and then running the Bass Chorus into the Meathead, then running your Meathead into your amp, right? Members Brian Marshall
Boss Bass ChorusDAM MeatheadA true bypass Looper only helps for when the problem pedal is turned off and out of the loop, right? My problem is that the Boss makes the Meathead sound lifeless and cruddy, and I need them both on. if you need them both on at the same time then modding the boss to true bypass or a looper will do nothing. The problem with buffers and fuzz face circuits, is that buffers are very low impedance, and fuzz face inputs expect a signal with a moderate amount of impedance to work correctly. To correct this problem putting a 5K to 15K resistor in series with the input of your fuzz pedal will do wonders. You need to mod the fuzz though, not the boss. Members aaland_brian
buy a forox wah retrofit and put it in an enclosure inline right before the meathead. Or pickup a psionicaudio fuzzy logic pedal to put in front of it. If I were you I would just run it first pedal in the lineup since I can't see any reason why it has to be last.
