I am trying to decide which route to take, either a Tube Screamer, Fulldrive, or OCD???? Any suggestions??? I will be using this pedal to through a Blues Junior with a MXR 10-band eq and a RMC picture wah. Basically this is going to be a practice amp so I don't have to haul my Bogner Shiva around all the time. Any advice on which one would give me some pretty flexible distortion tones (Classic to Hard Rock, no metal)???? If you have another pedal in mind then let me know, I just thought that one of these would be nice b/c I could use it with my Shiva when I am playing out.

I own both a TS-9 and an OCD. The OCD is great for high gain situations but I find the TS-9 to be useable in more situations. There are also many mods for the TS-9 that can take it into mane different territories.

Other pedals ppl will recommend are the Box of Rock, MI Audio Crunch Box and the Tim or Timmy pedals. Haven't played them so I can't comment.

You can't really go wrong with a good Tubescreamer-type pedal. Even if it doesn't give you exactly what you want they come in handy for goosing other pedals, etc. Start there and keep it handy if you decide you want something else.

+1 TS's are kinda like swiss army knives, they can help in a lot of situations. I never used a TS-9 until I recorded in an LA studio 5 years ago. As soon as I got home I went out and bought a TS-9.

Thanks for the responses, if I get a Tubescreamer I would like the TS808, I am not handy at modding pedal on my own, so I guess is the extra $100 worth it to have it modded by Analogman or Keeley or whoever else. Is the sound that much better???

Analogman's mod on my TS-9 definitely smoothed things out and helped retain some low end. I had that mod done a while ago. Nowadays there are tons of Tubescreamer type pedals out there so don't necessarily be wedded to Ibanez for that type of pedal. Use your ears, not your wallet, to make the decision (or you'll end up buying a bad one like the Bad Monkey-no dynamics). For example the BBE Green Screamer looks interesting on paper, but I haven't tried it. Hunting down the one you like is half the fun (for me at least...). Good luck!

For the biggest range and best dynamics into a clean amp = OCD

For Blues rock into a clean or semi OD amp = Fulldrive

Semi OD amp only = TS

My vote is the OCD. I have all 3. The OCD cleans up extremely well with the volume knob on your guitar.

go with the fulldrive. You get the same type of tone as a tube screamer but with more controls and its more transparent. plus its got that wicked comp-cut boost. gotta love it! even the old model of the full drive sounds awesome. I've owned both and they both made made/make me smile.

OCD into a Tubescreamer based pedal is an amazing combination that I am using now. The TS type pedal is a BYOC Screamer with some higher end components. I run both pedals with the volume all the way up and the gain all the way down. OCD is V2

I usually just leave the OCD on to drive the front end of the amp and step on the TS for leads and the like. Its really cool because the OCD drives the TS harder.

I'm going to record some clips of this soon. I'm just really loving this combo...gives me a nice bluesy clean tone and a great lead sound.
