Members Faldoe
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/msg/625737553.html I'd buy one or the other, they have "vintage" pickguards...whatever that means....Apparently they go for a lot....
Members Saturnine10
I saw these today as well.. I'd get the black one
Members the future king
Shoreline gold one is pretty cool if you ask me. They both look good and those aren't bad deals at all.

Members Faldoe
I saw these today as well.. I'd get the black one heh yeah. Well if they're the same I'd get the cheaper one...Is the shoreline worth the price even though the paint is faded at the top? And whats the deal with the pickguards? Members Destructobot
Way overpriced. I wouldn't pay more than $950 for an AVRI. Actually, I wouldn't buy one at all, but that's another issue entirely.
Members the future king
They are worth it, just flip the guards. They are just vintage and unless you are in love with them don't keep them.
Members melx
"Vintage pre-CBS pickguards are worth $300-$500 alone. No I will not remove them and sell the guitars for less." is there anyway to check that they are what he claims? why wouldn't he put the original guards back on? seems a bit silly to me. Wouldn't he be able to sell them to someone who has an original for a good price and sell these quicker for a fairer price? maybe i'm just naturally suspicious but I smell a rat. It just seems a bit odd to me.....
Members the future king
He was posting this a couple months ago on a couple different forums for WAY too much. Everyone seemed to think it was legit, just too pricey at the time. He has lowered these considerably. If I lived in the area I'd totally try to pick up the Gold. Members Faldoe
Could I make some money back by selling the pickguard? The dude claims they go from $300-500. That might be a little more worth it to buy the guitar then.
Members jay3265E
Way overpriced... WAY WAY WAY overpriced. Those should be under a thousand. I could care less about "pre-cbs pickguards". How could you prove it? Also, it would be way more important to have pre-cbs pick-UPS. Terrible deal.

You can get repros that look just as good.

Members garyfanclub
the black one is gorgeous, but 1400?? I'd take a black jag, jazzmasters are overrated.
Members SonicVI
He is right that those pickguards are worth $300+. So say the stock guitars are worth $1000-1100 plus the pickguards the prices seem pretty fair to me.
Members Faldoe
Update So I went to the dudes house and tried the guitars - I like the goldline's neck better than the black one. The Goldwine was a stock sunburst the the dude stripped down the body and repainted it and did the aging himself it doesn't look bad but doesn't that lower the value of the guitar? The pickguards look great, really awesome but not worth what they cost it sucks Fender stopped making them like that - the guy said there was something in the original pickguards that was banned and not allowed to be used anymore... I can't the $1000 for the Goldline and is it worth it since he has altered it like that? I don't like the aged look either, it's a great color and he did a good job painting it but the aging turns me off. But the guitar is great and has got me GASing for a jazzmaster, sounded way better than the tele I have.
Members the future king
I'd get the Shoreline Gold personally, but I love the way it looks and if you like the neck better go for it. I think people often get too hung up on certain details. If you can afford it get it, but if you can't justify it wait until something else comes along. As far as I know this is total and utter crap. they are probably made of 'Celluloid' which isn't banned, but it is a solvent based plastic which means A: that it's very flammable...and B: that it shrinks over time and can cause the finish of the guitar to crack around the screw holes and split and crack the guard, nearly all vintage guards are made of this stuff and for the reasons above why they probably changed to using 'Vinyl' which is a very similar plastic apart from it does not shrink and is not particularly flammable. you can still get Celluloid guards though, they aren't 'banned' some Tortoise and Pearl guards are still made of the stuff. Vinyl guards are just seen as more practical these days and probably less expensive too. If you want a celluloid guard I'm sure one of the custom pick guard places would be able to do it, I know the Simms custom shop in the UK uses Celluloid tortoise shell. Members Faldoe
ahh, well he said the Celluloid part and the flammable. Great guitar but the paint job - vintage wear attempt and the hassle of putting the pickguard on ebay is turning me off

It's all very well saying the guards are worth that kind of money (and to someone with an original whose got a cracked guard, they might even be worth more) but you still have to find someone who want's it and prepared to drop that kind of cash... Members Faldoe
Yeah the guard isn't cracked or warped but the wear attempt turns me off it was just a regular paint job I'd be game, a great guitar and I really want a jazzmaster now, the other neck didn't feel the same on the black one - black on 07', goldline- 01'
