OD pedal before or after Vibe?

Me? Vibe then dirt.

Me too, vibe after dirt can sound too phased and thin. Just to get this out of the way, because it will come up, Hendrix often had his fuzz before his vibe. If you want to get those Jimi tones, that's the way to go. Just be sure to try it into a cranked, compressed and sweaty amp, or into an overdrive pedal and clean amp to get the most from it.

Also, I have dunlop's stereo Univibe (great but overlooked pedal, IMO) going into a SMMH into both an AC15 and a Twin. Sounds incredibly massive. I :love: it!

That sort of setup would be difficult to do with Vibe->Dirt as I don't have two of the same overdrives. Hey wait, what if I use DIFFERENT ODs? Hmmm.

I'll BRB!

I've been trying different things, but I think I'm going with Vibe before dirt like most of you have said. I'm running a mojovibe into an OCD right now. My OCD seems to like my compressor (keeley) right before it, but having the comp right after the Vibe doesn't sound quite right to me. So the beginning of my chain is Wah--> Comp--> Vibe-->OD.

Just in case anyone was on the edge of their seats for me to come back, here's my report.

Initially I set up my stereo rig as follows:

Left: Strat -> Stereo Univibe -> Blackstone Mosfet -> SMMH-> Vox AC15

Right: Strat -> Stereo Univibe -> MI Audio Blues Pro -> SMMH -> Fender Twin

I set the overdrives to approximately equal distortion levels and the amps to equal volume levels. Then I started playing through the rig and listening.

The sound coming out of the rig was pretty decent. It sounded like a delayed dirty vibe coming out of two amps. Yes, it sounded exactly the way it looks like it'll sound like. A fun tone, to be sure, but nothing awe-inspiring.

Then I turned off the Blues Pro. :love: The clean and distorted sounds were mixing and almost dancing in a way that I've never heard before. Tons of fun with that one. The clarity of the clean guitar defined and warbled with the sustain and "punch" of the distorted signal. I wish I had a stereo recording rig to let you guys know what I mean.

Then I tap tempo'd the SMMH to match the rise and the fall of Vibe's LFO. So basically it would echo at the same rate the vibe pulsated at. That was an incredible sound. The way the two amps and clean and dirty signals were mixing added along with the stereo delay working in concert with the modulation made my head feel like it was going to implode. Literally. It was a really cool tone. If you have any access to a stereo univibe, a stereo delay, a dirt pedal, and two amps, I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend you experiment with it. It's awesome. :thu:

That's pretty cool, jake.lind. I don't have a stereo Vibe, but I can imagine what you're describing and I would think it sounds pretty righteous and wicked! :) I have a UD stomp that does stereo, and it can get some phaser type sounds, which might be close enough just to get in the ballpark. I'll give it a try sometime.

I'd consider a Rotary or Vibe as a Modulation effect and place mine last before the Tremolo. I'd place my OD first before everything else to Boost my signal prior to going into anything else, then I want to Rotate everything except for delay and tremolo.
