Members pjackson92
As the title says I'm about to start building my pedal board and I want to know if an EQ pedal makes a differenceor not.
Members rileykill
I've never needed one but I think it depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you have a particular pedal you need to tame or you love your tone but can't quite get it dialed in ... then I think an EQ would be very useful. Members Woody777
No... I don't think any pedal is necessary. An EQ can be useful though.
Members Jules-RM
It's also useful is you do a lot of guitar switching. Helps to have a dedicated EQ for a particular guitar, to even out volume/tone issues.
Members guitarohnono
I think and EQ pedal before and after your distortion box is a very useful tone shaping tool. But it depends on what tone you want. At some point you can go into EQ overkill. Flat may be best.
Members IRG
I think EQ ends up being used more like a boost, with tone shaping abilities. Certainly can be a useful tool. Your amps eq may be more than adequate though. If they are passive tone controls, start by turning all the levels up. This is actually the "normal" position, and decrease anything, bass, treble, mids as desired. Starting your tone controls at midpoint is a misnomer, you're actually below level this way. Members can't remember
As the title says I'm about to start building my pedal board and I want to know if an EQ pedal makes a differenceor not. I just started using a couple eq's in my signal chain. I found they work good for a two general things, tone shaping and boost. In my set up, I use the last one for overall tone shaping. The first one, I use for a boost, a lo-fi sound, and "second guitar" type of sound (kinda like a call and response effect between two guitars/rigs). Seems fun so far
Members triplover64
HUGE difference with an EQ. Especially if you go from single coils to humbuckers or if you get muddy distortion from the amp. I'll never go without again.
Members Tengo
I didn't think it would make too much difference till I popped one on my board and now it is NEVER coming off. Seriously, get one.
Members Crxsh
Essential? No. Helpful? Yes. You can achieve a lot of tonal ranges with an EQ. It's the cheapest pedal on my board .... and possibly the most useful. My .
