taking the plunge... recommend me a fuzz!

Something gritty, thick, bassy, gonna tear your speaker apart fuzz. I really like the square fuzz on my Microsynth... but I'm getting tired of the synth part. I think a dedicated fuzz will cover more ground for me.

I want something I can use for rhythm sounds on my amp's clean channel... and then kick in the amp's overdrive channel for crazy fuzzed-out lead tones that are on the verge of blowing up the venue.

Anything fit that description? And it should probably play nice with buffered pedals before it...

I like my MohoMods Russian Muff. Great bass and good fuzz, andplays nice with an OD before it. Great for lead tones, but decent for chords if you don't get too complex. The Little Big Muff is less $, and might be similar. Check out the Earthquaker Devices Hoof too.

Ned - your fuzz sounded cool... maybe it was the recording or my computer speakers... but I don't think that's quite what I'm after.

What about the Boss FZ series? Anything cool there?

I like a lot of the Smashing Pumpkins early fuzz tones... although I think so much of that is due to layering tracks in the studio.

Big Muff. People say the Mayo nails that sound if you has $300.

I has not $300...

Any particular Muff? NYC? Russian? Vintage? A muff clone?

I would try a NYC. I have not played all the variants and derivatives so I am not the most helpful here, but the NYC should do a decent job. Adding an EQ may be helpful also.

Smashing Pumpkins,
Siamese Dream
through
Mellon Collie
was a Big Muff, NYC for rhythm & a NYC and Micro Synth for leads.

Weezer used a NYC Muff on
Pinkerton
. Otherwise, I think Rivers always used a DS-1.

i don't know man...i don't think the NYC existed at that time for siamese dream. someone please correct me if i'm wrong though. i thought it was just sovtek and vintage back then
