Members gambit
like in a pedal format.. if they can approximate rotary speakers, surely they can recreate mellotron string sounds.. right? :poke:
Members hangwire
how much do you want to pay? you might have soem stuff already that will keep the cost down...
Members garyfanclub
Maybe FM-4? I don't know as I've never played one but I heard it can do some crazy {censored}.
Members mythcloud
A Mellotron is essentially a sampler, but what makes the mellotron sound interesting is its slow attack. A reverse delay would probably do it.
Members petejt
That would be an awesome idea.

I don't know as I've never played one but I heard it can do some crazy {censored}. not really.. i don't reme, ber there being much in the FM-4 for that kind of thing. synth strings are probaby the closest. the closest i've got is by looping several notes individually to make a chord, but they all had different levels of vibrato (finger), ambient tape delay and reverb. i wouldn't want to pay much.. Members gambit
do you own a laptop? because I would just get a midi keyboard and download a mellotron softsynth and be happy... you can take the laptop to gigs and pull it off live no problem... i'm not too worried about gigging with it as such. which of the softsynths would you suggest? i have a midi keyboard and a mac, but haven't ever gotten into the world of softsynths

It's a VST/AU plugin and can also be used stand-alone.

Kinda limited though.that one sounds awesome! not for Mac though i'll obviously have to try getting into these softsynths and al that midi malarkey.. bah. i like everything in hardware/real instruments So how difficult do you think it'd be to model it in a pedal format?i suppose the roland GR's are the next closest thing, but a line 6 pedal that does melltron sounds and glockenspiels and stuff like the GR's would be nice to see. Members SonicVI
So how difficult do you think it'd be to model it in a pedal format? Damn near impossible or at least extremely impractical. You really have to go MIDI/sampler route for the real sound.

Members spentron
Some pitch shifters/harmonizers can do a "string" sound. 'Tron is a pretty specific sound though.

Roland VG-99 can do Mellotron, but it's beyond your budget, as stated. Here are some demos of the VG-99 doing Mellotron, the "Won't Get Fooled Again" slicer-esque sound, Rhodes, Hammond B3, etc. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_music.cfm?bandID=781088
Members Kid_A
What about some more links to free soft synths? I got the EVE demo but there is no mellotron on it... everything else tho... and they all sound good...
