SOT: Looking for a new guitar

I'm kinda considering getting a new guitar after I sell off some acoustics that I have. I'm after a guitar that has a fixed bridge and at least 22 frets. Nothing that's too heavy metal looking. Humbuckers are OK, but I tend to find that they're a little bland when played clean, some might now be like this. The pickups must be passive too!

I was looking at the Ibanez RGA121H -

However, I'm not sure what Ibanez guitar's are like stock. What guitar companies have a really good stock set up? I'm looking to spend around

If you go for the RGA, you'll probably want to replace the stock pickups. I had the same ones in my RG1570, and they just didn't cut it. Except from that, it's a brilliant guitar. I had some issues with my RG looking a bit "too metal" too, but it plays so good, I soon forgot all about it.

Any of you guys play the
? What do you think of it?

I love my Jaguar HH. It's my main guitar. It plays like butter, feels great, has good fret access, and great build quality. All of the hardware is solid as well.

However, the pickups are really low output. They sound great, and by far are the best sounding humbuckers I've used, but they're more like thick sounding single coils than humbuckers. That may or may not be what you're looking for.

Hmm....low output. Well, I'm not really a heavy metal type guy so I guess this wouldn't be a problem. I'd be playing mostly blues, classic rock, jazz that kind of thing. To be honest, I'm not terribly sure how low output would effect the sound of the guitar. Would it mean less sustain?

personally I really dislike high output humbuckers. Lower output sounds more natural to me, less agressive and nicer tones.

Yah I had been looking at SGs too, but not sure on them. At the moment I'm leaning more towards the Fender Jaguar.

Regarding the Jaguar - the pickups are passive, right?

yup, most guitars are these days apart from 'metal' jobs.

it seems the music you play, i would go with a jaguar, they have a very distinctive sound to them...i love 'em... also i agree with Anti on the pickups, for blues, funk, or rock..you cant go wrong with a Jag...or a strat
