Members Shlongosaurus
Ok I have three items that are not working and i'm pretty pissed. I was hoping some of you might be able to offer some advice. 1)GUITAR: THe neck pickup on my Epi Les Paul sounds dead and cuts the signal by quite a pit. When i switch to the bridge pickup the volume is at least twice as loud. When i have the selector between the two pickups and turn the neck volume down from it's "loudest" point, it actually gets louder and much brighter for a bit, and then it gets quieter. So that's that 2) AMP: I just bought a used peavey classic 30. The cleans are great. I love the tone but it is very noisy. also in the backround of the distortion is a weird rattling. It sounds like when you turn a knob and here that crackle, it's like that only constant. It's weird. The amp has after market speaker, tubes, tube tame, and tube protector. 3) EFFECTS. I have a visual sound jeckyll and Hyde. these pedals have to selectors on them in addition to the knobs. On the jeckyll side it is a bass boost which when i turn the bass boost off the signal is cut in half and there is little to no overdrive. One the Hyde side is is a Sharpe/Blunt tone shift and it is stuck on sharp, which i don't like and never used. Any help would be immensly appreciated as i am greatly pissed that i paid money for this crap that is basically unsuable with all there problems combined. Thanks for any help. Members grayeyes777
it sounds like a good tech can fix all of the above. the pedal sounds broken and it may be better to just get a new one. Guitar should be an easy fix for any tech... probably just needs a wire re soldered. the c30 is noisy in general.. and so are el 84's. i had to tame my tube tamers cause they were making more noise than the tubes. i wrapped some cloth around the springs and it cured it. anytime you buy something used though, you should definitely retube it. sound's like you could have a bad one. try that and if it's still there find a tech. Members Shlongosaurus
THanks gray eyes. The guy said that it had been recently re tubed with jj's, which it does have jj's in it. I think you might be right about the tube tamer. I might try putting the cloth around it. Thanks again

I would try chancing pre amp tubes first then go for the power tubes. the jj's powers are good but i'd go with groove tubes or something else for the pre amp (12ax7's). my tube tamer did rattle really really bad though before i chilled it out. Members Servant
By chance, if you'd like to get rid of that busted pedal - I'm looking for a visual sound enclosure to house a pedal of my own. Just let me know.
Members Shlongosaurus
Grayeyes=Ok I'll do that once i get some money. What do you think of tung sol? Yeah the tube tamer isn't rattling bad but there is a little rattle coming from something so that might be it. I'm just more worried about the weird backround noise in the distortion. Servant=yeah i'll let you know if i decide to sell it. I would much rather just get the thing fixed if it's not too bad but i'll pm you if i'm going to let it go. Members Shlongosaurus
I put some cloths around the springs on the tube tamer which seems to have stopped them from buzzing so much. I tapped the cab a few time with my finger and found out that two of the pre amp tubes rattle. One is a sovtek and one is a jj. I don't know what this means. I have a spare EH if that would be a better replacement, or should i just go buy something else?
Members Servant
Replace all of the preamp tubes - period. Just my .02 - but it's a good practice for little money. Less than $30 or so for good solid JJ's or what have you.
