Wait a minute...
Since when did Jesus design and create anything?

"It's a great fairytale, but it's not... Science."

I shouldn't be watching this {censored} right before work.

yeah I wondered about that statement as well.

I'm not touching this one with a 10' pole.

I will.

I've stopped trying to try to convince creationists that (censored to keep flames down), etc. ;) my current mentality is "I hate that they teach new generations these age-old myths but they're fully within their rights to do so. free-speech and all, when I'm pro for".

so let them continue teaching the small ones, it makes them happy right? they're perfectly allowed to use antibioticts, gene therape, the internet, automobiles and DVDs, while dismissing almost entirely other modern science because it directly contradicts a 2000 year-old book. let them be happy, because in the end I think happyness would be better for all of us. one thing I wish they woudl stop doing though is pushing their influence too far in politics and in general into others who don't abide by the same religion.

I'm not bashing religion in the purest form. I have no beef with someone who wants to believe in God. but please, let the others of us trying to improve our way of life (ie stem-cells). and if you absolutelly must start wars, leave religious reasoning way out of it. ;)

I love how, the scientific method is almost completely ignored. That the science that is bashed, which is responsible, collectively, for all of our modern conviences, is treated as ignorable where it is convenient for their belief system, yet believe what gives them there wonderful life. Evolution is not a philosophy it is scientific theory, tested, and used to predict results, these results allow us to make wonderful medical technology....

"They date the layer by fossil and the fossil by the layer, ... Circular reasoning"

wow.

holy {censored}. I guess that the bomb doesn't work, either.

Big news story in Wisconsin today about a family up north that had a daughter die. She had diabetis and the family opted against meidcal care in favor of prayer healing.

It is sad... but people should have the right to choose medical care, but was it in the best interests for the daughter to take this path? Should teh parents have put aside perosnal beliefs to amke sure their daughter would live? Big murky area for debate.

I just hope that teh doctor who made teh diagnosis in teh first place was abel to have an open dialog about respecting their choice, but also presenting the options of different treatent paths...

Well, yeah (almost) true ... but this crap is incredibly widespread in this country and it's a relatively widely accepted stereotype. I've seen it applied ad nauseam on this forum, for example.
:idk:

Yup, from this side of the Atlantic, viewing it all from a safe distance, some of the god bothering nonsense that goes on in the states is extremely scary. Museums dedicated to creationism, evangelist tv programs, the bizare 'god told me to do it' reasoning of George W. Gump etc etc.

Truely terrifying in this day and age - like looking through a window into the dark ages.

Lucky you to be so far away ...

I mean, are these people serious? How can anyone misinterpret scripture so badly?!?

Hard times, hard times. Anyway, now that I'm sufficiently depressed I'll make my exit.

A long time ago I came across a word thats meaning denotes the religious indoctrination of children. But I don't remember it. Does anyone know that word?

proselytism? inculcation? Maybe the latter ... proselytism doesn't necessarily carry a negative connotation (although in this context it might).

How's that for some $1K words?
