Members Jono-60
I just got one. I put in a battery and turn it on, I get the funky blue LED. But its does not vibrate the string on my guitar. Am I missing something? Is it a duff one?
Members Holey Lint Trap
Is your guitar plugged into a turned on amp?
Members Northstar
Is your guitar plugged into a turned on amp? That's not necessary. At all. Noob.
Members johnrambo
you've got to hold it there for a second to let it start vibrating the string. try holding it over a particular string and hammering down a note and holding it.
Members Northstar
Your battery maybe shot. It may be powerful enough to light the led but not the magnet. Try a fresh battery.
Members Travisaurus Rex
I had the same problem too when I first got one. You have to read the instructions very carefully. The ebow should be level, use your neck pickup and make sure it is over the string right in the middle. It has two ridges that are a guide for the outer two strings(from the one you are vibrating) It also helps to hammer-on to get the string started. I suggest you start with the g string 12th fret and stay on thet note, moving the ebow around to get a feel of where it vibrates and not. Keep in mind that it will have 2 sweet spots if you use a humbucker. Once you get a feel for it, the rest just comes with practice and experimentation. I love mine now but I hated it for the first hour!
Members Holey Lint Trap
That's not necessary. At all.Noob. Yes. I read the post wrong in my haste. Apparently a common happening around here. I took it as my guitar isn't making any sound with my ebow.

Members Northstar
Reminds me when I bought my first Crybaby. I plugged everything in and started playing with the pedal... No wah-wah sound. I was so disappointed and almost ready to bring it back when I noticed the hidden switch...
Members Jono-60
lol, if only this had a hidden switch. I just tested a different battery and its still not working!
Members Northstar
This is a long shot and don't feel offended cause you never know. Are your strings steel strings? On what kind of guitar are you trying this on?
Members justintee
let us know how you get along. hopefully it's just a battery problem.. and you have to run it over the pickup... do you have the instructions?
Members Jono-60
Yup I have the instructions. I have run it over a pickup but no joy. Ive tried googling and i can find no stories about duff ebows. Only problems with the switch after dropping it.
Members justintee
dang.. did you buy it new?
Members Northstar
Do you hear a humming noise when the eBow is directly over a pickup? Even if the eBow is not properly played, when it's over a pickup you should hear a humming noise. If that doesn't work then your eBow must surely be defective. I could have gotten my money back so I could save for something more to my liking. In my youthful state, I proclaimed, "If its good enough for Jimi its good enough for me..." Then I realized I wasn't Jimi and this wasn't the one Jimi was using. That damn thing sucks the life out of my tone.
Members damacy
try lower notes. they vibrate more. notice that it won't make noise immediately unless you tap your string with your left hand. you have to wait about a second or two before you actually hear the sound. also, it shouldn't matter what guitar you're using. because my ebow works fine even with my acoustic guitar. my advice is to go through the lessons on the instruction tape if you've got one. you'll be amazed to see how much it can do. Members bennintexas
you need to find the sweet spot on your guitar, i find it really responsive towards humbuckers, but with my tele, i have to find the right spot for it to react. good luck hope its not a lemon. Members z1o
just put it right above the string, let it almost rest on it, with the switch towards you when playing...
