Members pbone
I'm gonna order some GGG kits coming up soon. How hard is building? Any good resources for me to read up on? What should I know? I have a soldering iron already and my dad is going to help me out with that. Also, does anyone have any info on painting? Just the basics, plus I want to do that thing that analogman does, with the kind of cratered surface....
Members SUPER VELCROBOY
you should read.you should start to read the diystomboxes forum. you should also read the diystomboxes faq page from top to bottom several times.you should read about how to wire up for true bypass with led. This is available on the ggg site.but building a kit is overall pretty easy. You just have to know how to solder without making a mess. The difficulty is when you run into problems and you have to troubleshoot. That is when all that read will help you.
Members dap99
The GGG stuff is pretty good. Not as simple as BYOC, but still pretty simple - mainly, I found that when it came time to wire up my 808 clone, the diagram from GGG wasn't oriented the way the pedal was laid out. nothing major, just took a little work "work backwards". I like the GGG 808 better b/c the PCB is smaller and it has a few of the mods built right into it. Do you have some desoldering braid? I lke the stuff from Radio Shack. I got the stuff from Small Bear, but it doesn't work as well. I also have a solder sucker which is good for getting stuff out of holes. have fun! Members andrew_k
^ what they all said, + buy a multimeter. Costs maybe $10, but will slow your descent to madness when something you build doesn't work.
