Good OD/Distortion for Stacking?

Hey guys, I'm looking for a good overdrive/distortion to put after my fuzz pedals that will not go ridiculously muddy if I engage a fuzz or distortion before it. I currently have an English Muff'n, which I usually leave on almost all the time, as I love the high end sparkle it adds. But as soon as I turn on a fuzz/drive anywhere before it, it squashes the signal so much that the fuzz turns to mud, and the compression gets rid of all high end clarity, makes everything sound like a metal pedal. Any recommendations, either for new gear, or a change in setup?

Uh.... have you tried running anything after it?

You could cascade low gain into high gain if you put something heavier in front of it.

Or you could sell it, add a few bucks and get an MI Audio Crunch Box & Blues Pro Overdrive. Those two together .... sheesh.

I'm actually looking more for a replacement for the Muff'n due to its size as well. Does the OCD have higher headroom in that respect? It's like a 1/4 the size of the Muff'n, which would be great. I'm bouncing between the Box of Rock and the OCD, but I've never actually played a Crunch Box, or the Blues Pro ever. I see them a lot on pedal boards around here though? How does the Crunch Box compare to the BoR and the OCD? Similar beasts, or entirely different?
