Who wants a Parasite?

SORRY - THEY ARE ALL SNATCHED UP

--

This is for the DIY guys. I designed a little PCB I call the Parasite. It's nothing fancy, it's just a dual rail-to-rail op-amp, both halves in series. It's got a level control, and that's it.

I designed it to be a clean cut/boost device - if doesn't go all the way off, but it does get quiet, and it gets pretty loud. It's 1.6"x0.6", it's slightly smaller than the side-profile of a 9V battery, so it can fit any place a 9V battery does.

It's a multi-purpose device - depending on how you wire it up, it can be used in the following manner:

- to boost the output of a vintage effect (without hacking it up). Let's say you have an old (or a new) small stone, and you are sick of the annoying volume drop. Just unsolder the wire from the output jack and reconnect it to the Parasite input, then connect the Parasite output to the Output jack, and there you are. You can then adjust the output with the trimpot.

- as a on-board guitar boost. Obviously this will require a battery, but there's room in most guitar control cavities to squeeze one in. In this case, instead of the trim pot, you can just install wires to a full-sized 10K pot.

- as a stand-alone boost. Just get yourself an enclosure, switch, a couple jacks, and maybe a DC jack, and you can build your own little boost pedal.

- as an on-board pedal booster. Just install it in front of your favorite OD circuit, and goose the OD with it. It can be wired up to a switch, or hard-wired, whatever.

It's all SMD (the SMD components are already installed), all you have to do is a) figure out how you want to use it, and then b) install a few wires and (optionally) a cap and pot/trim pot., and you're ready to rock.

I've got a couple extras that I'm giving away as freebies - they are already built, they just need the thru-hole components installed. I'll send them with all the components you need, including wires, etc., as well as wiring diagrams for a couple different configurations. NOTE - this is for 9VDC supplies only - 18V will kill the op-amp.

So, if you want one, email me through our website's contact form ( http://www.ToadWorksUSA.com ). I've only got a few to spare, so first come, first serve. No warranty or support on this - it's free, so you're on your own. If you blow it up, or you damage your vintage whatever, it ain't my fault.

God I hope that there's one left. Good bye Blue Box volume drop!(?)

EDIT: Ah, crap, didn't see the edit...

Well, if any of these find their way to the spam thread, someone contact me first.

Well, we were thinking about selling them as kits - pre-built board, with multiple wiring diagrams.... one reason for this giveaway is just way to gauge the interest. I do have more...

"I designed a little PCB I call the Parasite"

is this a joke?

steven

No, it's not a joke. I really did design it. I hadn't heard of the device you linked to, but I couldn't care less. I'm not trying to market anything here, I just designed a fun little board that I thought some people might find useful.

Now, if you are the guy who is selling those, and you feel that by giving this little board away I'm somehow infringing on your trademark, I suggest a polite email.

so you are honestly trying to say that you came up with the idea of making little preexisting circuits intended to install inside of and/or modify other preexisting devices or to work as standalone devices and that you thought to call them PARASITES several months after i launched my completely original PARASITES and after i

Yeah. I don't know how long ago you emailed me, but I designed this about 6 months ago. If you emailed me about your products, I honestly don't remember. If you bought boxes, I don't remember. I don't know how much email you get, but I get a couple hundred a day, including weekends. I lose some - It happens. And if you sent MULTIPLE emails on the same subject without a response, I probably didn't get them. I just did a search in my email for 'parasite' - nothing.

Suggesting I didn't do enough research (in fact I did none, since I really only designed it for myself, and I had no intention of marketing anything under the name Parasite - which, btw was based on a joke I made in an interview a couple months ago:
http://www.sixstringsoul.com/toadworks-interview/
) is one thing. Calling me a liar, after I already stated I had no recollection of your products, is another.

Like I said, you could have a sent a polite email, and I would've had a very different attitude. I have no wish to infringe on anyone else's business. But calling me a liar in open fora is uncalled for.

Okay, I just did a search in my email for your email address. This is the ONLY record I have of contact from you, and my response:

Hi Steven,

We don't do the powdercoating anymore, but we still sell enclosures.

What did you need?

Message: i've heard that you sell blank cases in bulk to pedal makers and that you also do powder coating, is this true and if so what sort of prices are you asking

thanks,

steven

Now, speaking as an IT professional, I'm guessing that what happened is that your first contact got through, because you used our web form, and that any additional email never reached me, probably because it was caught in a spam/virus filter.

And for the record, please note that your email to me was a MONTH after I made my Nematode/Parasite joke in the SixStringSoul interview.

Got anything else to say?

Toadworks FTW! :thu:

have i called you a liar? i'm just curious about an explanation which so far i find very hard to believe. the only thing you have done so far is say that you "don't remember" and then put a lot of words in my mouth

and since you're posting my email in a public forum to attract spam bots i

I would like to suggest two things:

1. First of all, remove each other's email addresses from public display before I have to.

2. Take this discussion to PM's or email and work it out.

Thanks.

Removed - it wasn't malicious.

But with all due respect, if I'm accused in a public forum, I should be able to defend myself in a public forum.
