Members homestar_kevin
yep. or diy.Ikea Gorm shelving + Spray paint + Velcro + Thrift store suitcase = $20-25 pedalboard that stuff is legit. KeithSIO and I cut the slats down to 2 inches and take it from there, thus making it a 2-7 dollar wooden pedal train style top that can be made to many sizes. gotta love the swedes
Members the future king
Why's that? I am trying to get pros and cons for both.
Members homestar_kevin
well I dunno I'm just a fan of rondo boards in general, and there are some good b stock ones on sale at rondo for like 30-40 bucks which is amazing. then you could buy a power supply, like a dc brick or voodoo labs pp2, and have a bigger board with more growing room. or you could get a pedal train refurb from musicians friend for like 80 bucks right now. which is quite cheap
Members masterwuhan
I used to use a Rondo until I upsized to a Pedaltrain. pros: - prices are great - handle is quite comfortable - convenient... just pop off the lid and you're good to go. cons: - they're definitely not road cases... you can dent the aluminum exterior with your fingers and all - the hinges look a little bit iffy, though. I've never had a problem, but I was always afraid the case was going to open up from the bottom and spill everything onto the ground. - the lid (where the pedals go) has a lip around the edge. I don't recall, but I think it's something like 3/4" or maybe even 1". I worked around this by lining the lid w/ a piece of plywood. The velcro-ready fabric that lines the bottom is pretty useless, IMO. Sounds like there are more cons than pros, but I really do like mine. It's not heavy duty, but if you just need something simple, they do just fine.
Members FatsoForgotso
yep. or diy. Ikea Gorm shelving + Spray paint + Velcro + Thrift store suitcase = $20-25 pedalboard +1Pedalboards are a scam in my opinion. You could build one just as good (maybe not cosmetically) and save money. I mean I don't look at pedal boards, I look at the pedals
Members rileykill
DIY boards are cool no doubt ... but for the money (i.e. cheeeeeep) I might be tempted to go with the Rondo. Looks as good as anything I could come up with, anyway.

Members mike.sartori
The Rondo I had was great, but only for about 2 days. I had to fix the hinge pins, and the handle kept falling off, and the latches are bad, and it's all dented up. People say they aren't good for "heavy road usage" but, if bringing it from my school to my church once a week is heavy, then these things should be viewed as immobile. I just bought a pedaltrain 2 refurb for $79. So far, so good.

If you make your own pedalboard, how do you transport it safely? Buy a suitcase that fits it, buy a roadcase that fits it, etc. I usually just cover mine in a blanket or something similar for the short trips I normally need to take. Members rileykill
' alt='>'>Ok ... see how Marc Ford's board has handles on the sides (I assume to lift it out of a road case)? Does anyone know which boards are built like this?I want a simple but sturdy lift-out board with a roadcase to drop it in.

Sometimes you find boards just like that pretty cheap.
Members danhauk
Check out custompedalboard.com to see what a forum member makes. He can customize it however you want, including with handles to lift out of the case. I'm thinking about looking more into it myself.

Can you pull it up and attach some better velcro? it's a layer of fabric glued to the lid. It's not glued very well. You could reglue something else. I mostly used plywood instead of just replacing the fabric to get around the lip issue. But yeah, I think they're adequate, but not great. Worked for me, but I really baby my gear.
