Members baranger1
Hi Everybody,I have been doing a lot of programing and experimenting with the new Roland VG-99 and have been finding some great new sounds with in it. I posted some of my fun samples of the Roland VG-99.Its cool as the unit uses your actual guitar string as its sound source or oscillator. This is NOT a synthesizer, it is a guitar! It just audio pocessing. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=781088&content=music Bill Ruppert For more info there are some very good groups dedicated to this unit http://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/vg-8/
Members germanicus2112
Very impressive stuff. Excellent playing. Im currently using a Variax setup with a gr33. Have you dabbled using the midi out at all? Ive heard reports that the tracking with external units is poor with the 99 (which has been the case with many roland gr synths). I realize your samples arent midi, but this is a function I would need to employ if I purchased the 99.
Members baranger1
Thanks! Well I have not tried the Midi out yet as I do not have much need for it. But I have also heard reports that the tracking with external units was poor. I strongly believe much of the problem is in how guys are setting up the GK input drive. It must be set different for the Midi out. Roland has 10 different spots in memory for different GK pickup settings so once you find the proper set up you save it and recall it when you use the midi out. I have heard a lot of things that were untrue that just turned out to be user error. If I get a chance I will check it out and let you know what I find. That said, nothing will "track" better than the straight VG . The VG is simply your guitar string which allows for actual fingers on the string expression. Members germanicus2112
As much as I would like to think its a setup issue, Ive found that not the case with Rolands guitar synths in the past (I own a gr30 and gr33). Im able to setup the gk pickups for very accurate tracking when using the internal sounds on the gr30 and gr33, yet whenever using the midi outs, find it very wanting. I dont believe that this is due to the gk pickup but rather how the units themselves process and convert their signals.

I believe Bill is referring to the GK pickup settings within the VG-99, rather than the physical setup of the pickup on the physical guitar. The VG-99 has level settings for each of the six pickups, measurement settings, etc.
